like mentioned above, this is a well beaten dead horse topic... the reason you probably cant find is the admin people have to end up locking the topic/thread up due to personal attacks by certain individuals.
so here is my .02....buy what you want to buy. either v10 or psd will do you a great job. i personally went with the psd due to my past experiences with ford diesels. but i am not saying go buy the psd. it was my choice to buy.it all depends on what u want, and what you are willing to spend.. anyways good luck with your research and purchase..

But this isn't a rational choice at all :-) -See the thing is, I am originally from another country where all vehicles are taxed to the must absurd point. ..........................................So, you see, I just HAVE to try one of these big, cool, powerful trucks :-) .
Like what 2005 said, get what you want, since it is not a totally rational decision.

This is exactly my point. Good information comparing these two engines can be hard to come by because people end up in a pissing match.

Here is my take on the the gas vs diesel question. The diesel makes sense if you tow very often, tow very heavy loads, or plan on putting many miles on your truck, I'm sure you will read people on this website that have 400,000 or even 500,000 miles on their diesel, these engines last forever. Currently though in my area diesel is priced 30 cents higher then unleaded, which offsets savings even more. Yes, the diesel will have a higher resale value, but often times the investment is never recouped unless you put a lot of miles on it.

Some people buy diesels just so they can say "I have a diesel" and thats great, people can buy whatever they want. The power stroke is an incredible engine and I would love to have one, but I just cant justify the cost involved

In my opinion, the V-10 is much more than enough for what most people do with their trucks. The power stroke is a bad *** engine, I just cannot justify it from a practical standpoint.

former v10 owner, new 6.0 owner

I just traded in my '05 v10 for an '05 6.0L. Bottom line, I couldn't be any happier. I'm not going to get into the mileage, cost of engines, cost of upkeep. Bottom line is .........I'm happier and that's all that matters to me. I love the sound of the motor, smell of the fuel and just knowing it's a truck motor in a truck.

I realize some of you will be satisfied and completely happy with your v10 and that is fine too!

I guess, I'm just a diesel kind of guy. In 1973 I bought a 400 lb olympic weight set. I could have bought one of those cheap Asian sets that accomplishes the same thing, but I wanted a York Olympic set and that is what I got and I just feel contentment everytime I go to the basement to push iron and see that name on the side of the plates, "York"

I needed a workhorse type blender/food processor for the kitchen. I could

have bought a Hamilton Beach, instead I bought a Vit-a-mix. You can put children's wooden blocks in it and it turns them into sawdust. Same deal..

250/350?

tckhan, above, suggests the 350 over 250. I just ordered a new 250 with heavier springs and the only difference between it and the 350 is bigger rear brakes and the dually option???? Correct? Anyhow, I have been told that since I will have females driving it, the 250 gives a better ride and is a better choice but I may be ordering another for myself and want to know why tckhan thinks the 350 is the way to go. Ford just increased the rebate to $3000 so I am going out the door for $23K including 6% sales tax for a 2005 F250 XLT V-10 6 spd. with 4.30 posi, steps, best radio, bdysd mldgs, alum wheels on empl discount thnx to bro-in-law. I ordered 3-23 and all orders 4-1 and later are 2006's, so I barely squeezed in to get the rebate. Now, I am looking at this forum for the first time and am shocked at how small ya'll are saying is the max size tire for Super Duties. I had planned on 37/12.5 x 17's on the rear and at least 315/70 x 17's up front but would rather go 37 front and 40's in back..... With the V-10. 6 spd and 4.30 I should be able to go damned tall???? I look at the stock ones and it looks like there is a lot of room to go past the stock 265's.

There doesn't seem to be a big difference between the 250 and the 350, other than as you suggested the dually option and the fact that the suspension is a bit beefed up. I don't think the 250 is a better ride than the 350. I prefer the 350 from my test drives, but then I bought the dually, which is definatly a stable ride. Doesn't seem to be much difference in the MPG of the dually (I get 13-17 MPG), and no problems going through drive-throughs. The parking does require a bit more thought but would for any of the LWB trucks.

Thnx, but with the optional susp I got on the 250, are you SURE the 350 susp is more beefed? I got the camper option and some other h.d. spring option. I think I want the 350 next time because the brakes (rear only???) are bigger and I can never have big enough engine, brakes or tires. I know a 250 even with the reg cab will be too heavy to be very peppy but the 362 h.p. and 457 torque sounds like I might enjoy it.

The only difference in a F-350 Dually, the Dually comes with a Dana 80 rear, which is shared with the F-450. The F-250, F-350 SRW comes with a Viston rear (part # ????, not sure) I belive they have the same brakes, except the F-450 & F-550.

Thnx but I read in Ford info somewhere the 350 has bigger brakes than the 250 and that may or may not be rear only and I am asking if anyone knows. I also believe I read the 250 and 350 have the same rear axle for 2005. I am only discussing SRW's, not dually comparison. thnx, tho!

My literature only shows a difference in the rear axle rating, 6200 lbs/F250 and 7280 lbs 350 SRW. No difference is listed for the brakes. There are a lot of threads dealing with the technical differences between the F250 and the F350.

Also Danko you may be thinking of the larger brakes for 2005 vs 2004. The rotor size was increased in 2005 for all Super Duties a/t the literatrure, but no difference between the 250 and 350. Again a difference exist in the axles (rear only).

The only difference between the 250 and 350 is the rear springs. The axles and front springs are the same. Save the money and buy the F250. You can add springs later. It will be cheaper to buy AND cheaper to insure. Some insurance companies won't insure a 350 because they consider it a commercial vehicle. If you NEED a truck to say F350 to impress others, replace the badges. Other than that, no difference.

The difference between an F350 and an F250 is the LEGAL payload of the F350 is higher.
Many places in North America are voiding your insurance if you have an accident when your pickup is over its GVW. This is the LAW. Nobody ever said life if fair and why would I want to own an F250 CC that I could overload by taking 5 of my fat old aunts for a Sunday drive.
