The multi function switch on the colum has been replace, the Wiper motor has been replaced. ALL Fuses have been inspected. Is There a wiper RELAY? If so, location is where? The sqwerter motor works if I put 12 volts directly to it.
I only see 12 volts on just 1 of the pins coming in to the wiper motor. Help Please! Thanks!
Still no luck! What about a "Delay Module" located
SOMEWHERE ???? Where under the dash? Is there such a thing? Tested all KNOWN relays (2 in power box) and 30 amp fuse in fuse panel, all ok. Have replace multifunciton switch (NEW) and wiper motor (rebuilt). Could the stereo installer guy have cut a wire in the dash to the "Delay Module"??????????
On the older Fords there used to be a seperate wiper module, but on the newer vehicles many electronic functions are now combined all into one module - the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). It is the workhorse of a multitude of circuits, including the wiper circuit.
The GEM takes "feedback" directly from the MFS and then operates the wiper motor accordingly (controlling wiper speed, delay interval, it even directs the washer pump operation).
The GEM is located behind the right-center part of the dash, kinda near the glove box area.
Other than the GEM, you are looking at an issue in the wiring harness somewhere, I'd have to think.
BTW, if you replace the GEM, I believe it must be "programmed" first in order to work properly with the PCM. Maybe someone can confirm or correct me on that. This is a dealer only thing.
If the GEM works for other functions, then maybe it is a wire harness issue.
The left cigar socket does not work either. I really think the car stereo dude cut 1 wire too many!! When I replace the radio and re connect the cigar socket, I will look for wire harness issues... Thank you for your advice. Michael44a
Michael44a, just a couple of questions about the wipers. When you turn them on and put your hand on the motor does it seem to be running? IF it is it could be a linkage problem. It sounds like the 12 volts on the motor connector is about right. Everything else in done by the GEM, relays and multifunction switch. You said that the washer pump works when you put 12v on it. That is a different circuit then the wipers and has only a relay and the gem putting a ground on the relay coil to pull the relay and turn the pump on. Again it looks like the gem is what they have in common. I would pull the glove box and see if you can check the connector on the gem and reseat it.
Dave
on edit: yes the Gem has to be "programmed" by the dealer.
Dave, thanks for the lead. Someone had at one time installed a "high end" stereo sys. All they left was the over priced "Gold plated" fuse on the battery.
I will remove and trash the $29 radio. I will install a new cigar socket and put power to it. At that time I will look for the GEM and reset it. COULD IT BE THAT THE GEM JUST NEEDS TO BE REPROGRAMED? Thanks! Michael44a
