12 v Heater and wiper motor

Ok the truck is 12 volt and the heater motor and the wipers are sill six. So I want to replace both motors to 12 volt units. question is this. does anyone know what vehicals I might look for to find relpacements? Like are 56-6? wiper motors and heater motors the same as the 6 volt only 12?

In addation if anyone has found some out of something else and or has part numbers please post.
I will probly either go junk yard or buy new as I work in a parts store. thanks

I'm pretty sure the '56 fan motor will fit in the '53-55, but the '56 windshield wiper motor mounted outside the cab, so at least the mounting plate is different. I've never seen a '53-55 electric wiper motor, so I'm not sure if it would be as easy as changing brackets or not. If you're switching from vacuum, it may be easier to buy one of the conversion kits that has the motor and all the brackets/linkage.

Good Luck!

Nope I have the factory electric wipers and the rec heater. Thanks

I think the wiper motor just mounts with 3 bolts, it is under the dash.

It might be easier and cheaper to use a dropping resistor with your 6 volt motors in your 12 volt system. You could even run them at 7 or 8 volts for added uumph. Since the windings on 6 volt motors are heavier gauge wire than on 12 volt motors (because 6 volt motors draw more current to produce the same power as 12 volt motors), you could get away withoperating them at higher voltage.

Ref the fan motor....I used the (12V) motor from my 78 Econoline in the stock case. All I had to do was enlarge the hole about an inch and it dropped right in. I'm not saying this is for everyone, but, if you do have a working heater fan motor lying around, you might consider it.

I you are using a rheostat (basically a variable resistor) to control the heater you can probably get by with the 6V heater with no changes...just don't run it on high. I ran a 6V heater on 12V for years using the low setting on my rheostat switch...worked fine.
