I have been getting really horibble gas mileage for an inline 6. I have replaced the gas line, gas tank, fuel filter, air filter, exhaust, gutted out catalic converter, replaced fuel pump, new sark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. After all this i get a big 8.07 miles to the gallon, no lie.
One quick thing you can do that will make a big difference is tire pressure. If you have LT's look on the sidewall and see if it says "max cold press 50 psi". I usually run mine at 45 psi.
The easiest way is to squirt small (repeat SMALL) amounts of starting fluid around lines and manifold areas that are suspect.
Take care to avoid sparks in the area, you don't want to start an engine fire!
Also, pull the line (it's a large diameter one) that feeds your power brake booster, and cover the port with your finger.
If any of these strike gold, you'll know because the engine RPM will change
