Fuel Pressure Problems

Hello everyone, I have a 1986 Ford F150 with a straight six. Recently, I have been having problems with fuel pressure. It seems like the truck is not getting enough gas, and it has an inline fuel filter that seems empty. although it gets just enough gas to remain running. To fix the problem I have replaced the fuel filter at the carburetor and the inline fuel filter, replaced the fuel pump mounted to the engine, and checked the line for obstructions. I am new to all this, and I am no mechanic, so I appreciate any suggestions. Thank You.

What kind of fuel pump does it have? Could be going bad.

The truck has a mechanical fuel pump that is inserted and mounted onto the engine block. I have replaced the pump once, and I am considering replacing it again with an electric fuel pump. However, replacing the pump did not change the problem. The tuck only has one fuel tank which is mounted on the rear drivers side. I pulled it off, cleaned it out, and put a new screen on the fuel sensor unit. This too did not fix the problem.

Does it have the original steel fuel line routed like the factory had it, or has someone re-routed the line and it has a lot of rubber hose on it.

Get a lawnmower gas can, put a long rubber hose on the suction side of your pump, stick the hose down in the can and see how it runs on that.

Thanks Dave. That's a great idea. I believe the line from the pump to the carburetor is original. Then there is a rubber hose from the pump to the inline fuel filter. I think the hose from the tank to the in line fuel filter is plastic. I appreciate your advice.

Thank you for your help. I was able to fix the problem by installing a universal electric fuel pump. My theory is that whatever is inside the engine block that works the arm of the mechanical fuel pump wore out. I left the old fuel pump in there just to cover the hole it would have left. Again, thank you. Your idea helped a lot.
