Im in the process of changing the fuel filter on my 2007 f150. I have removed the old filter and installed the new one, but I cannot get the fuel line from the gas tank connected to the filter. Am I missing a trick here? I tried pulling out the small blue flip on the fuel line and connecting to the filter but I still get a leak.
There is a tool that you need to complete the job from what I have read on here. I am not sure what the tool is called but I have heard it can't be done without it. Try running a search for fuel filter tool.
I also should have thought to compare the new one to the old one but didn't even think too. Still better going through that then paying the dealer to do it.
Yeah, there are two sizes for these trucks. The only difference being the size of the tubing, as far as I can tell. The flex fuel 5.4s take the filter with the larger diameter.
Only Ford knows. It doesn't matter what engine you have. The filter size change was a running production thing (older trucks have the larger 3/8" size fitting). Some parts stores know this and some don't. Took me two trips to find that out too!
Same thign here. Went to local store, read the book only listed one part number, got it, installed it, started up and leaked like a son of a gun... Returned it and got correct one... good thing it was summer and no rain as I needed to use the bike to get the correct one!
You only need one of these; the one that fits the size of your filter. I think this style is much easier to use than those $3 crappy metal ones, though.
When you guys shop for the fuel filter do you specufy the production year and drive configuration (2WD/4WD) of your truck? i know it sometimes makes a difference for other items like oil filters and the like. I guess you need to make sure the counter person actually specifies that info when searching for the part.
Another good idea and simple fix is to just take in your old filter and match it up to the new one. Side by side comparison of parts saves time, headaches and repeat trips to the store.
Yeah, or take a dial caliper and measure the outside diameter of the tube.
Or get one of each size and return the unused one. That's what I did, twice. I forgot that I had written the correct part number down in my service manual, after the first time.
