well hey everyone, my name is John but I go by Gamble, even before joining the army. About me.... I am a christian and a soldier stationed at Ft. Wainwright. I have a 94 Exploder 4dr 4x4. She's stock for now, but I have a lift and JD prerunner winch bumper in the garage. I'm hoping for gears, lockers and 33's this summer. I'm a hotrodder by nature and a licensed aircraft mechanic, just don't work on em anymore. I love cars, guitars, my wife and daughter and getting greasy. I'm lookin forward to summer and beating the X up a bit with you guys. You can drop me a line at gamble71@yahoo.com
oh yeah, guess I should mention I love heavy metal music and a good cold beer with a big hot steak. So when we go out as a club I have not problem hauling a grill around.
There are several. Rough idle for a few seconds after start-up and white smoke for a minute or two after start-up are a couple. The PSD will start fine with several bad glow plugs but the cylinders that have bad glow plugs will create a little smoke until they warm up a little. If you are getting hard-starts then you may have 4 or more bad plugs.
I'm James and live in Anchorage. I've been here for a little over 2 years and work a couple of hours every night for my wife's business cleaning it up.(at least until break up - then it's play time) During the day I take care of my kids and my '01 F150 S/C SB 5.4l offroad 4x4.
We're getting lots of new faces in our Chapter! Welcome everyone! It does this old boys heart good to see so many of you here! And to think just two weeks ago we had our first meeting with only 5 people!
I can hardly wait for spring to meet all of you! This is gonna be a fun summer!
Hello, I'm Doug. I live in Fairbanks and I have a problem. I seem to be addicted to throwing money at my truck and watching it go up in black smoke. I was born and raised here in Fairbanks. I own a 96 extended cab F-250, a 71 F-350, and wanna be Explorer Mercury. I'm also looking for an early Bronco 66-77 series. I've snooped on this site every now and then for quite awhile. Nice to see some familiar names.
Hello all, I'm Eric, came up with the Army got out and decided to stay. Currently work at the hospital in Fairbanks, if you've been in the E.R. I've probably seen you, work security. During hunting season I work as aa assistant hunting guide. I've driven Fords since I can remember, well except for that 95 Nissan SEV6 which didn't last a year that doesn't count. Currently driving a 90 F350 Crew Cab SRW 8 ft. bed diesel, with which I know my limitations and take it to a mechanic to fix what ails her. Also have moved since I joined the site now live out by Salcha, less people and not as crowded. Thanks for the invite and thanks for the site.
Hey everybody. My name is Jimmy and I live in Anchorage. I have owned owned a Ford ever since I was a teenager and probably always will. My current project is an 85 Ranger. I am married and have 2 little girls so I am looking foward to meeting some other people who like Fords. Thanks.
Hi all!
Ben and Angela here. We live in the North Pole area and at least one of us is driving a 2003 F-350 6.0L and the other is probably driving one of the '78 Chevys - Blazer or K20. Oh yeah, cannot forget the Mustang in the yard(temporarily out of commission).
Have a great weekend!
I just joined by invitation today, my name is Dale, and I live just outside Fairbanks on the Tanana River. I am a Field Engineer for a large computer company. I am 48 and have lived here for 17 years. I have owned many Ford trucks, it's nice to know there are others out there who don't let friends drive GM's or Dodges. (Just kidding).
I have a camper, and my wife and I love hauling our Boat to Valdez to go fishin. Our new Powerstroke is awesome, hauls that 9.5' camper, 20' Jet boat on double axle trailer and all the stuff over Thompson Pass like it's not even there. Thanks Ford!
My son and brother in law both have new 04 F150's that they like a lot.
Hi all. Thanks to Heavenbound for emaling me and inviting me to get together with you all. So cool to see all the folks from here around Fairbanks. I got hooked on Fords by chance. Grew up on a Missouri farm with Chevy, Chevy, Chevy... My first vehicle was a Dodge from the conservation department auction ($750 - sold!) When I started making a little money I looked for a small truck and the 1991 Ranger was the best truck in my price range and the dealer treated me right. In 94 I traded for a new Jeep Cherokee, but it broke down ALOT and I went looking for a new vehicle. The new Jeep was only 8 months old, but I wanted it gone. Thought I'd try for my then dream truck (Z71 - darned Chevy background), but the salesman was really rude and laughed me out of the place. Went two blocks down to the Ford dealer (this was in Poughkeepsie, NY) and they treated me like royalty (never forget my salesman, his name was Conrad). I ordered a 95 F150 XLT 4X4 exteded cab, standard tranny and they got it to me in three weeks (found it in Connecticut). Absolutely fell in love. Kept it til 2000 and then broke it pretty bad (long story). Was in Texas at the time and finally got my dream assignment (Ft. Wainwright). Didn't want to drive from TX to AK with new repairs, so bought a 2000 F150 to come to AK. Great truck. Then I was ruined... A friend took me to Chitna in his F350 XLT crew cab. Wow! Luxury...Got a big boat and my F150 was hurtin - the Winnebago wagon trains were passing ME on the way to Homer and Valdez!!! Tried to trade up at Seekins in '02 but they really put a bad taste in my mouth (that's putting it mildly - they treated me like an idiot and were rude while they did it, telling me how stupid I was for worrying about a $700 a month truck payment. "Hell, a house payment costs at least twice that." Yeah, no kidding. Please...). Was going out to the Cushman shooting range the next day and saw MY TRUCK at Affordable Used Cars. Stopped in to check it out and ended up buying my F250 crew cab, short box, V10 for $11,000 less than at Seekin's FOR THE SAME YEAR TRUCK. Mine was a dealer demo from NYE with 4200 miles on it. SOLD! I have been so fond of this truck ever since. I can pull a city block and it's just SO great on those long hauls to the coast or to the North Slope for 'bou, especially when I make a buddy drive and roll the sleeping bag out in the back seat. Mine is still all stock except for the tires. I see so many awesome looking ones around town that are lifted with nice big tires/rims, but I'm not ready for that yet. It took me so long to get and I'm just so happy with it that I don't want to change anything yet. I went out a couple months ago and test drove a new 3/4 ton Chevy and Dodge just to see if I was missing anything. I am definitely not.
By the way, I'm looking for a used cab-over for my truck. It can be pretty much ugly and well used - that's cool. Just a dry place to slee if it's cold and wet after fishin'. Appreciate any help - Anchorage not too far if the deal is good! Remember, I have the shortbed!
Thanks for everyone's time. I'm honored to spend it in such good company.
I'll do what I can to help out at any get togethers that you all organize. Take care, Donald.
It is good to see we have an Alaskan Chapter. I call from Eagle River and finally decided to get on order F350 6.0L SRW S.D. to replace the old '76 Camper Special. This was motivated by frost heaves and whoopdeedo's that cracked the frame more times then I care to admit. My favorite weekend spot is the Denali Hwy and if that '67 Franklin Truck Camper will fit, this is most likely where you will see my rig when the snow melts.
