Hey everybody--thanks to those who put in the work to give us an Alaska chapter. I am an OB doctor in Anchorage (deliver babies) and have been working for 2 years on my longest pregnancy yet: a 1965 F100 Custom Cab Styleside Turquoise and white with a stroked 351W with many upgrades and no I/M!! I've learned a lot from reading the posts on this site and enjoy hearing about the projects of others. I hope to be driving Ole Bessie this summer and maybe see some of you on the road!

Hey all!

My name is Kim and I live in Chugiak (Peter's Creek area). I drive a 96 Bronco. I love street dragging and playing hard in the mud. I have had lots of vehicles, but the Bronco and the Scout II have been the best I've owned so far. Would love to get my hands on a 78 Bronco to make a rock and mud toy. I do most of my own work on my truck. This site has helped me a lot when I get can't find answers in the manuals. I spend most of my time homeschooling my special needs kids.
This is great! We can finally meet other Ford fanatics that live in Alaska!!
Happy Trails,
Kim

Hello

I own 3 fords: 97 e350 w/7.3psd, 86 escort diesel, 98 escort

I also have this international diesel school bus which I used to drive up here 3 years ago from NY.

I teach part-time at UAF. I'm also a member of the Army National Guard.

We have over a dozen dogs. You can see most of them here:
http://asuaf.org/~ffmig/mydogs.htm

The 97 e350 was a BP van from the slope. It smokes alot in cold weather start up. A white smoke.

I'm also teaching a video production course for the community schools starting this Wednesday, 19 Jan, if enough people register.

Thanks so much!

Michael

White smoke:
Caused by unburned fuel passing through the engine. Some white smoke is normal on cold start-ups.
Excessive white smoke could be an indication of inoperative glow plugs, loose injectors, low compression from worn rings or bent connecting rods, or coolant leak into the cylinders--head gasket or injector well sleeves.

I would guess you have some bad glow-plugs. By the way welcome to the site..

Hey Been a member of the main board for a while but have not been here in a while anyway a bit of background. I own a 62 Unibody with a tired 390 setting on a 74 F250 4 by chassis. It is currently waiting for me to finish the floor swap. I got tired of getting wet everytime I hit a mudhole . Among the list of my menagiare I have a 68 Cougar also a 390, A 45 GPW with a turboed V6 (needing a wire harness swap finished) And have a 93 Dodge Cummins as a driver. I live in Anchorage and am a A&P Mech.
Any ways take care.

Hi everyone, My name is Brad. I have a 2001 Ford F-350 crew cab Power Stroke. I enjoy Alaska and all the things to do here. I am currently getting ready to drive out on the ALCAN. I owned a Chevy before this and that held up fine in the ALCAN and my only worry about the Ford truck would be the cold weather making it difficult on the engine for starting. Actuallly that and the poor fuel mileage. I bought this truck used and haven't seen better than 12 mpg. I purchased it before winter so I am stumped. I added some goodies to it which should help the mpg (providing not hard on the throttle...I am occasionally hard on it but sometimes you have to see what the truck is capable of). By the way, I have whooped some rice rockets. Any suggestions on how to improve my mileage other than waiting until it gets warm out would be great.

Hey Brad, welcome to the site. I also have a 2001 F350 CC PSD. I get much better mileage however - 22 mpg in summer (many trips to Homer) and 16-17 mpg winter. I don't know why your mileage is so poor, I have 66,000 miles on my truck, a superchip (put in back in '01), stock tires (265/75R16), a Leer 100XL topper (maybe helps with streamlining) and I drive 60 mph on average. Enjoy the Alcan!

Hi, My name is Jack. I'm from Birchwood and I have a problem. I love my Fords ever since I was a kid, thats my story and I'm sticking to it. I currently own a 1978 F250 4x4 (my summer toy only) my wife drives a 1998 Expedition 4x4, a 1990 F250 4x4 (my winter truck) and a 1990 Taurus (currently doa). I work for the Municipality as a Heavy Equipment Operator. My wife is a medical biller for a OBGYN office in Anchorage. We have 2 kids a boy and girl.
My Current baby is in my gallery. She's from Bend, Oregon and has almost NO rust.

Im not online a whole lot, but love this site. Hope to meet some of you soon.

obtw...If any of you follow the local car Races, you might know Jay or John Childs(the "Screamin Eagle" and "Its Just Money"). Anyway, they are the ones who worked there magic on my 400+HP motor. I dont have any pictures of the motor yet, although I could dig the truck out enough for a few pictures.
