I'm a computer dummy and in trying to read posts with my monitor, I am having to scrol from side to side to read everything. Is there a setting I can use to avoid having to do this? I have a 15" Compaq MV540 monitor and a Compaq presairo computer running windows 98. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Because this web page is optimized for a 1024x768 viewing area. If you're monitor can handle it, you MIGHT be able to go to that resolution.. I'd just go buy a new 17" monitor, it will for sure.
I doubt that combo will run 1024X768, most of those older 15's won't.
Buy a 17 CRT, they're cheap enough these days, seen some for $99,95 a couple of days ago.
One quick google search, and I find that the MV540 can handle 1024x768
Move the mouse pointer over the desktop/background, anyplace there are no icons or windows in the way, and right-click, go to Properties, then click the Settings tab - you can change the resolution there. Depending on your video card, if you go to 1024x768, you may limit your color-range, but you should be OK.
Thanks for the input! I went into the display in the control panel and selected the 800x600 resoultion, now I can see everything. I tried the 1024x768 1st, but everything was way to small. I still think I will need to get a new monitor, the new setting makes everything pretty small also.
Wow, so you had it at what, 640x480? Didn't know people still used that..jk . On my 800x600 setting, I still have to scroll and everything looks way to big for me. But thats just me .
I use a Compaq MV500 15in. monitor and it does 1024x768. The MV540 should as well. If everything is too small for you at 1024x768, right click on the desktop hit properties,Then settings, then click on the advanced button, in the next window set it for "large Fonts"
You may have to reboot afterward to reset it.
All this depends on if your system video or card supports
1024x768. If everything is o.k open your IE browser click tools go down to "text size" and set it for whatever size is good for you. I don't know if you've done this or not, but when I bought this monitor used, it was not set for full screen. I had to adjust the settings on the monitor to open it to full screen.
