I have a Dell pc on dial up. If you let the pc sit for a while on line and come back it automatically disconnects from the internet usually in about 15 minutes. How can I get it to stop doing this ?
Is your computer still running or does it go into hibernation? Are you using XP or Vista? It has been a very long time since I was on dial up but some dial up ISPs disconect after inactivity.
oh man, I gptta dig through my brain of forgotten info for this one. I think windows DUN has a settting that dosconnects if idle for x minutes. lemme see what I can find
It is also possible that your computer is set to disconnect when it is idle. To check if an idle disconnect option is set on your computer:
Windows XP, 2000, 98, NT
Open the Control Panel and double click on Internet Options.
Click the Connections tab, highlight your Expedient dialup connection and click the Settings button.
Click the Advanced button in the Dial-up Settings section of the screen.
Uncheck Disconnect if idle for [ ] minutes.
Click OK, and OK again, and OK once more. The new settings should take effect the next time you connect.
yes - dial up. from what I have read - some people used to have these wires that came into their houses and on these wires travelled phone signals and each month they sent money to some sort of a 'bell' (taco?)
next people will be telling us they used to take music off of round discs using needles and not lasers!

Thanks, I tried what you said, but the disconnect if idle button wasn't checked, so I checked it and then unchecked it and added more time to it, then hit ok. I hope this works.
