Rear Window Problem

Have 87 Bronco - back window will not go up - have power going to the motor - assume motor is bad - how do you get in to remove the motor? Window is down and there isn't any room to get in to it - also, is there any way to put window up without the motor? Thanks a lot

Did it go down OK and then all of a sudden it won't go up ? Try to open and slam the tailgate and see if it catches on the left side. This is where the switch / sensor is and will not allow the motor to work. Does it roll up from the switch in the cab ? Probably not since you didn't mention it. Also, do a search on the forum and you will probably every solution and fix that there is for this problem.

Good luck,

I have had the same problem in the past. Pressing on the left side of the gate while it is closed just above the key hole worked for me. Every now and then I need to go back there and engage the sensor by leaning on the gate.

Thanks all for the replies - BigBronco your solution worked - window is now up - does this mean I need to replace the sensor? Thanks for all the help

Not necessarily, the problem is more often that the latch is not fully engaging when the gate is closed. Check your striker bolt position and make sure that when you close the gate the latch is fully engaged. If not, this is what is keeping the window from moving for you. If the striker bolt has shifted or the gasket around the rear between the tailgate and the bed is damaged it will mess with the latch/striker alignment and cause this problem.

Greystreak has a good start for you there. As mentioned before though...there is a bushing that goes around the striker bolt. Its only about $2 and easy to replace. There isn't really a sensor but a safety switch in the tailgate next to the drivers side latch. If the switch doesn't "sense" that the tailgate is closed all the way then it won't let power get to the motor. Thats why when you pushed in on that side it worked. Check with www.broncograveyard.com
They have the bushings for the striker bolt.
