Red face rear window motor. . .

2nd bronco (traded first one years ago), first issue with both the rear window motor going out (luckily, got window in up position) and the drivers door window motor gone. Any ideas what this will run $$$ to fix (this is a 95 EB) and is either a do-it-yourself job? Hate having only 1 window in this beautiful weather (central fla). Can't use rear gate/storage area either---can't get into it! augh. No hurry, but any suggestions (auto parts store with HIGH recommendations etc) would be appreciated.

I know when my rear window stopped working it turned out to be the driverside latch died and I had to push in on the driverside upper corner of the liftgate to open and close the window

Before you buy a new motor!!!!

First...
Do either of the motors sound like they are trying to spin? If so then the motor still works but you still may need to repalce the inner motor bushings (they make a repalcement kit for this OR you can make them yourself). they are simply miniture hockey pucks in the motor which help the gearing to function.

second...
Take the motors out of the door and tailgate. (using a 2x4 to brace the windows can aid in keeping the windows up while you take the motors out). on an 86 (door motor) you will need to drill out some metal to get to the bolts that hold the motor to its frame. A haynes manual is helpful in identifying this step...should be a little dimple in the metal where the bolt is located. Next you can use a battery charger to hook onto each wire of the motor. If it runs freely your motor is good. While you have it off take off the gear face-plate and lube the bushing up...also check the condition of the bushings. If they are oblong...they are worn and could lead to functional issues.

There have been a few times were I thought my motors were shot...only to find out that the bushings were bad or the tailgate latch was not fully engauging. Saves you between 50-90 a motor!

You can do the same thing with the rear window. Let m eknow if you have any questions.

Cool Ok

So we switched out the motor...Nothing. Not a damn thing. No noise,it doesnt even try. Could it be something else? Maybe the connection from the key to the motor?

1) Fuse? Is it blown in the fuse box?
2) Your latch may not be fully engaged...if the tailgate is not fully closed the safety latch does not release adn thus the motor will not run. Have someone put a shoulder into the tailgate..give it a shove and work the switch. This is the most common issue!!! Also, make sure your latch handle is pushed all the way down.

Let me know if you have more questions????

Crap....if you went through all of this work for a fuse!!!!! Here is a suggestion...replace the fuse...if it works...go inside...draw a hot bath, get some candles and relax...never trust the guy you know again about your vehicle. I was under the assumption that he would have known to check the fuse first!

If it does work after fuse replacement do one of a few things:
1) get your moner back for the motor if you can
2) If not save the motor...there may come a time when you can re-use it. As I recall it can be used for one of the passenger side doors as well if it takes a crap on you.

Good luck Sarah!
