Actually the reason my EGR Valve became accidently unplugged was due to the carbon, soot, junk stuff being continually reintroduced into the system. Slightly enhanced turbo reaction was merely a side benefit in my opinion.
Trash causes all kinds of problems in all kinds of systems. To design the reintroduction of trash into an otherwise sensitive system was ludicrous. EPA issues not withstanding.
IMO this is the only main reason a V-10 may be more attrative in a high stop/go traffic situation. Let the 6.0 EGR plug fly and think you would be just fine. But, as always, It's your deal, your $$$, your personal decision.
Good luck either way. As I said earlier I am sure that your trusted sales guy was just trying to be helpful with his comments. As we are here.
Now if everything is flowing as normal...you shouldn't be any futher along with your decision than when you first asked.
JFWalker, keep this in mind, if you buy the PSD would you only be driving it to work and on short trips. The reason I say is my wife has a new Eddie Bauer Explorer. I bought my truck in April, at the rate I'm going I'll be putting almost 20,000 a year on it. Never had the intention of doing so when I bought it, but the wife and I want to take it everywhere. It is so much fun to sit up high and look down on the little folks in their pathetic small rides. Heck, we go to get a bite to eat sometimes and make a 60 mile trip out of it. You might drive it a lot more than you think.
I OWNED A 2002 EXCURSION V-10. I HATED IT. IT NEVER, I MEAN NEVER GOT MORE THAN 7 TRUE MPG. I TRADED FOR A 2004 F250 PSD CREW CAB. I LOVE IT. MY LOWEST MILEAGE WAS 11 ONE TIME. MY HIGHEST HAS BEEN 16. I USUALLEY GET 14-15 MPG. GREAT POWER, AND NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE 5700 MILES ON A 11/03 BUILD DATE. I WILL DEFINETLY STICK WITH THE DIESEL FOR NOW ON. YOU'LL LOVE IT. GOOD LUCK.
