skippy I doubt that BigSean could or would respond to your question as it could be construed as an official Ford position given his place in the FMC food chain. I know I wouldn't answer a blanket question regarding any ongoing Ford issues. Heck, dang, and darn...I appreciate him saying what he did.
Wish he would though.
I suppose there is also the risk of 'running off' folks like that. there was a thread a while back complaining that there were no ford reps posting- and here I go throwing down the proverbial gauntlet to one that does. alas!
One should always be willing to accept the consequences of their actions- including tearing up your truck if you push it too hard.
Well, mine had the P0603 when I picked it up from the dealer. 47 miles later I had the codes read and it had PO603. I had the codes cleared and about 150 miles later it had the PO603 code again. As far as I know, no one disconnected my batteries or re-programmed it while it was in my custody. I just figured it was some glitch and ignored it.
When I was having intermittent turbo problems, I disconnected the batteries for a couple of hours which seems to have made the intermittent turbo problem go away. Yes, it still shows a PO603 everytime I look at it.
This discussion is tending towards DRM --- Digital Rights Management. FORD isn't the only one who would like to have an uber athority to determine what you can and can't do. Microsoft (and RIAA and the MPAA) would prefer that you can't determine what your home computer can and can't do.
Can ford create a computer that can remember things beyond the power cycle? Of course it can. The amount it will remember is a cost factor ... It can't have unlimited memory.
As I said in an earlier posting, it's just an arms race. At some point, Ford will introduce tamper proof hardware. But as software makers and CD makers have learned, for each and every escalation in the battle, there's an equal and opposite escalation. It will come down (eventually) to economics.
There are things such as non-erasable PROMs --- ie: you store something in it once, and it's there for ever. But the obvious hack is to determine something benign that gets stored in the memory and to fill the non-eraseable memory with the benign code ... and then there would be no recording of new codes.
This is simply an example of an escalation. It's a sad thing when companies start working against their customers.
Certainly with each escalation by Ford, some number of people will be "caught" because Ford isn't going to announce the escalations. But in general, things will be the same as now.
Well I just threw caution to the wind...I ran to the post office (scissors in hand, on the slippery leaves) and sent Motorhaven a money order for a Predator. If I keep an eye on my tach and keep it under 3250 or so I figure I won't be abusing my vehicle. Can't wait! Next assignment....A-pod guages......Oh yea.

If you fart in the passenger seat, it will throw a P0603...
My Ford dealer told me that they will replace anything that tears up on my truck with the reprogrammer in because Ford cannot prove that the reprogrammers cause problems.

It is interesting that you say that you will keep the revs below 3250. The reason I say that is the Field rep told me that these motors are rev limited at 3400 and it won't hurt them to go up against the govenor once in a while...

Thats good to know but what I was getting at was the somewhat consensus of not beating your truck hard when having it "pumped up". Anyway the power band drops out at the higher rpm's. I don't like to rev it too high so that ballpark figure should keep my engine sane AND safe. I believe I remember the manual saying not to rev above 3800 (I think). Anyone else read this? Can't get to my manual right now.
