Well I guess I'm lucky...we have Internet availability at the fire station I work at. It's one of the "bennies" we get for working 72 hours straight! At least we can keep in touch with our families! And I can log onto the FTE site too...as long as I don't spend a lot of time messaging back and forth (spelled chatting!)
Yeah our "work day" lasts from 0645 (6:45 am) to 1600 (4:00 p.m.). After that we are on "down time" which means if we want to sleep, watch t.v., work on our personal vehicles, whatever we can...as long as we stay in the station or on portable radio.
Yes coca-cola is what I was talking about. For some reason caffiene seems to be something that helps me sleep. Sounds strange but it usually doesn't help me to stay awake. Caffiene pills on the other hand have done the trick. I keep a bottle of them in my cabinet here at work and have to tap the supply once in a while. In 4 1/2 months I've gone through one bottle of them, I started on them when I started on midnights about 4 1/2 months ago. Now that I'm use to this shift I don't have a need for them anymore, luckily.
Hey Birdhunter...thought you flew away for the night! Yeah caffeine can help me stay awake if I want it to..but I can also go to sleep if I want to as well. Wierd.
