i think i fried something....

ok, i left my lights on for like 3 straight days and the battery's 100% dead. so me and my friend (an electrical engineer i may add) tried to jump it, we hooked everything up the same way we always do, and its always worked fine before whenever someone needs a jump. but this time, we hooked everything up, and it started shooting sparks, and the battery began to smoke, so we quick undid everything, and noticed that a wire coming out of the relay on the side panel melted in 2, and the battery is still dead....anyone know what we did?

It is possible that when doing the jump, the jumper cables got hooked up backwards. This could easily damage some wiring. Another possibility is that your dead battery developed an internal short (rare, but possible).

I'd inspect and fix any obvious damaged wiring and any blown fuses. Install a charged battery and test operation of all your electrical circuits.

If your original battery was the problem, the truck should start OK. If the battery was jumped backwards, a fuseible link may have melted and will need to be replaced.

You should feel lucky if the battery plates are shorted and you hook-up jumper cables it could have blown up in your face. I had one do it and acid went all over the place and it sounded like a shot gun went off.

The top of the battery ended up on the top of my house.
