Hey, my brothers 04 F150 has been sitting in the driveway in minus 25 for the last week and a half, and the battery is dead. Problem is because of its location in the driveway we can't get another vehicle up there to boost it, so I was going to use my CHEVY truck to tow it out of the driveway so we could boost it, but we can't shift it into neutral with the battery dead apparently. So short of me taking the battery in to work and charging it there, is there any way of getting it into neutral with a dead battery?
How about a battery charger with a long extension cord? Or one of those portable battery chargers? I do not know if you can take it out of gear with a dead battery or not?
Not to be a smart a$$, but the time you took to walk inside and start your computer and get online and write this question you could have pulled the battery to take it inside to charge like you asked about.
Also this morning here in western pennsylvania is was around 0* and my battery in my 04 was a little slow, i thought it was getting slower last week when it was in the 20-30's. But now that is was 0, it was really slow, i might go get a new battery tonight and not take the chance with it any longer. Its the original battery from a late 03 build date, so i think its due.
Well i went and had my battery tested and it tested very stong still. It was very below normal temps here this morning and alot of people i talked to said their cars were a little slow to start, so i dont know. If the battery tests strong still i might wait and see what becomes in the next couple weeks. I usually dont venture far so ill see. Plus i dont know 100% that it is the original battery, but it is a motorcraft.
OK Im a Ford guy, so no axe to grind, but if you have the original MC battery, you have about 3 to 6 months left. Get a 65 seriies the next time you are out, or you may be walking.
Dang electronic trannies, don't have that problem with my 88 or 03.
I might just go get a new one next week. Ill have to see what my christmas bonus is. But i agree on the battery at the end of its life. Its just hard to justify $100+ to replace something that isnt bad, you know?

The MC battery for your truck retails for $79.95 at the dealer and it has a slightly higher capacity than the original with the tow package. Just after I bought mine, I got a notice that there is a $20.00 rebate available for it. I couldn't use the rebate because I bought it wholesale through my brother for $69.95.
The original battery in my F-150 lasted five years and two months. However, the battery in my Escape was still good when I replaced it (for the wife) after 8 years (and it is still good).
