i just recently bought my 97 expedition got it home the next day started perfectly fine it sat for about 3 days and i went to start it the battery was dead so we jumped it. the next day started fine 3 days later it was dead again. now we have to jump it every day i got the battery and altinator checked and both are perfect . they told ne there is a short some were i have looked and looked and have not found a problem yet i am just lost.
Get a testlight and hook it up like the diagram above. If it glows bright, you have a drain.
Pull each fuse and see if you can get the light to go out. Since you have a later model vehicle, you may need to wait a few minutes with the door shut before you can do your test, since your vehicle may have a "battery saver" function, where you can still operate things for a few minutes till it times out.
If you cannot find the circuit with the drain, pull the wires off the alternator and then see if the light goes out.
You have one of the first vehicles they started putting this stuff in. I believe in your case you have what they call a "GEM" module. You can see this module in the diagram in this link, it's the large box in the middle. http://repairguide.autozone.com/znet...52801e5719.gif
They put all sorts of functions into this module on a big circuit board. I don't have the proper schematics, the ones at Autozone for this year are lousy. But I bet the timing function to allow stuff to work till you open the door is controlled by the GEM, and you are probably correct, the GEM probably controls a relay in the fuse box or mounted somewhere else.
