Good luck...with your service guys...can't believe they didn't check....hope it's that simple. Please keep us informed.

Your engine build date indicates that it may be one of the of the 1st '04 engine builds. It is my understanding that the last '03 rolled off the line on or about 9/28/03.

For more info you might want to go to flatratetech.

Again, good luck.

Welcome to the site it is easy to get a little warm under the collar, try to go in with a plan to get the service dept on your side, be clear what you want and make sure you let them know in a nice way this not the first time for the problem. also you might want to stop in and visit with the service manager. let him know you have a safety concern, that is health as far as breathing the exhaust fumes, but whatever you do it in a nice way. It will make a difference and make sure you have paperwork on all your visits. good luck.

gporras: Isn't Buda south of Austin?

SBV45: I think gporras is in your part of the state...can you direct him to a different dealer?

The air intake for the A/C is in the cowel just below the windshield. When my truck is parked with the exhaust pointed into the wind, I get diesel smoke smell in my A/C. Cold starts in the morning are worse because the computer makes the mixture rich for easier starting. The wind simply blows the smoke to the area of my air intake and I get smoke. Setting the A/C on recirculate helps some.

In the end, a diesel smells like diesel. You will get used to it.

SBV45 is in Austin, he has a great dealer.

can you ask them to start a new one and let you see for yourself?

i do not have this prob, or have grown so used to it i do not notice..... i pretty much always smell diesel fumes, and like many others feel that is part of the experience, and is in no way, shape, or form a negative.... never noticed it stronger when a/c is on, or the outside vent for that matter.....

i would check other trucks, and see whats up.... if it is normal, it should be obvious..

good luck either way!

I think there is a Hooter's in Round Rock, too.

Well ...IMO...If I was gporras, I would be making a little road trip north to Round Rock and let them have a look.

My 03 didn't smell like diesel until after the first round of injector replacements (4) and a turbo. Then 6? more injectors and a host of reflashes. It never was the same. it was a 12/02 build date and is someone else's daily driver now. We have an 04 with a 10/03 build date (04 motor) that has NEVER smelled like raw diesel--but then it's never had the problems the 03 did. HECK--even being a (wish I could type this in tiny letters) cheby guy all my life I'll NEVER go back to a cheby truck--wish I'd listened to my older wiser friends all my life!!

I had the "y" pipe replaced on mine 2 weeks ago. I noticed the diesel smell in cab from the beginning, but being my first, I didn't know any better. But after reading the info here I'm more edumacated. When it started hissing I knew where to look and what to tell the serv mgr at Prestige. They had it for 3 days, seems to be a trick to get it to line up correctly. Since I got it back the engine seems looser, and wants to jump and run. May be my imagination after driving my wifes trail blazer for too long. Also absolutly no diesel smell in cab. Good Luck
