I have a 91 Explorer 2WD. When it's first driven in the cold mornings the speedo reads about 85 when I know I am only doing about 50.
It started doing it about the time I had the tran. filter/fluid changed.
YOU: "But officer, my speedometer isn't working"
COP: "Uh, yeah. My pen, however, IS working so I'll be writing you a ticket".
LOL!
I don't have any advice because that is pretty strange but I couldn't resist. Just a thought, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the wiring like when it's cold it contracts and then expands when it's warmed up.
There is a VSS for the cruise control but the spedo just runs on a cable. I had a car that the speedo would peg when it was cold then setle down. Problem is up in the speedometer. But, nice try blaming it on the transmission shop.
