Trans doesn't like to shift when cold.

My transmission doesn't like to shift when cold. It goes into gear but goes into higher rpms before shifting. This goes on for about 3 miles. It's avoided if I let it warm up in the driveway for about 10-15 min. any ideas? what can i do? Also, I am hearing alot about an OASIS report, dont know what it is though...

can't be of much help on the trans issue you have, but an OASIS report you get from the dealer. It tell what all warrenty work has ever been done by the dealer to your truck. Good info to get when looking at buying a used truck.

I'm pretty sure you are supposed to let your truck warm up, how many K's on it, is it low on fluid? Gigger

When was the last time the tranny was serviced?? Every 30,000 miles with ext. filter and mercon SP or LV fluid only. You shouldn't have to let the truck warm up for 10 or 15 mins.

just bought the truck the beginning of OCT/10. So I dont know the last maintenance. It's a 2006 f-250 6.0 CC FX4 Lariat with 125,000mi. Fluids are all good, no leaks.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to change all your filters and fluids just so you know where you stand. That will also give you reference point for future maintenance intervals.

The Torqshift's nature tends to shift a little late and hard. However this only occurs when cold. If this is happening more often you'll have to dig deeper on it. Try a flush first with an external filter change

And make sure that you use all OEM filters. The 6.0 doesn't like a/m's.

69CJ your info is right on but it's hard to put faith into someone who didn't spell Lariat correct in his siggy, Gigger

I think its just the nature of the beast due to the internal T-stat in the tranny. My 06 will shift out a bit later when cold with a firmer upshift ,All is normal after a bit of warm up. Allways has done this.

yeh, it runs great after it runs a little. I just hate having to let it "warm up" every day. But I foresee a trip to the dealer here in the future for a fluids change. Awesome response for my first post, thank you all. I am sure I will be back for more help.

You might be better off if you cut out the excessive idling in the driveway, the only way to warm the trans is to drive the truck. Excessive idling leads to fuel dilution, EGR issues and more. As someone already posted that you should replace all fluids and filters, motor oil, trans oil, transfer oil, differential oils, power steering fluid, brake fluid and engine coolant, Air filter. Make sure the fuel filters (2) are changed using only OEM filters and the required fluids. This is the only way to ensure peace of mind and a mileage to start future service. All this service I mentioned is a little pricey, but it's much less expensive compared to repair's due to service neglect.

I will do that, thank you. didn't know that about the idling. didnt really think it would hurt anything being done in such short time periods.
