Question newbee questions about 4x4

Hi all this is my very first post on this site I have a couple of questions, hoppfuly thay will be very simple for you more experienced folkes.

(I now own my very first 4x4 1990 F150 5.8)
Note: I am not new to cars I do very well with my 88 5.0

1. Do you have to fill the transfer case seperatly from the transmission, what
kind of tranny fluid do I use in it (automatic w/OD)?
I want to do a tranny service my truck has 118K miles on it.

2. Is it normal for the truck to have some vibration while running above 50
MPH? ( auto Hubs)

3. Are there any spical service steps for the 4x4 tranny other than a fluid and
filter change?

I guess that is enough to get me started. I have already taken care of several problems with the truck since I bought it, ie. Timing was set to 5 degrees, now at 12. It also had idl problems, so I cleaned the IAC, replaced the EGR to manifold tube (two holes in it), checked and replaced MAP, Intake air charge temp sensor, and the O2 sensor. It still has a small hessitation off idle when it is cold, so I am going to try a few more things and see if I can get rid of that as well.

thanks in advance

Yes, the transfer case is seperate from the tranny. I'm pretty sure they both use the same fluid. Mercon. Don't think your vibration is normal, I have the same setup in an F250 and mine is smooth going down the highway, but I do have manual hubs. Go buy yourself a code reader and a Haynes manual instead of replacing parts, It will save you a lot of money.

I have a code reader and so far the parts I have replaced are because I had error codes for thos parts. I had a code for MAP sensor voltage out of spec, and coolant temp low when the truck was at normal operating temp, and others...

can a bad transmission mount cause the truck to vibrate running down the road?

Vibrations could be many things or a compliation of things. rule out tires by getting the tires balanced/rotated and get an alignment. Also check u-joints for play, hold the yoke in one hand the turn the drveshaft with the other hand, if there is slop, time for u-joints.

when you do your tranny service, make sure and see if you can drain the Tourque converter, mine had a 1/4 inch plug in it, you furn it over with a pry bar after removeing the two screws that hold on the dust cover, and there is a small plug in there, thats where the majority of my nasty fluid was.

when its broken you have to replace it. I actually had my brother try and weld it up, he is great with a welder, but ther just wasent enough metal to work with.
