I went to Aamco a few years ago to have the tranny and clutch replaced in one of my Jeeps. It went back eight times in one year before it was right for things ranging from it not going into reverse, to a very loud clicking sound everyime I pushed in the clutch, to the driveshaft not being re-installed properly.
One the 363rd day of the one year warranty, they found that "someone" had installed the wrong clutch! That was the same weekend that they left it outside the gate with the keys in the ignition and the top off.
When you need a rebuild ask around local clubs etc. The guy with specialized shop on the corner for the last thirty years probably knows what he's doin. I,ve never trusted any national outfit to repair something the correct way. Sears didin,t even install my shocks right, told me they didn't hear any clunking sound (no bushing in top mount). Ask around find the local place thats been around for years. I went with a guy in my dads car club Transmissions and Brakes same place over 40 years and gave national warranty. He did all the upgrades needed. Still I would budget 2,000 to 2,500 bucks for a complete overhaul on E4OD with torque converter and upgrades.
Good Luck
