Transmission shift concern

I have a 97 F350 4x4 SRW w/5.8 and automatic tranny. The promblem is the transmission shifts harsh in all upshifts(1-2,2-3,3-4.) The 1-2 shift is by far the hardest as it will throw everthing of the dash when it shifts not to mention the wiplash you get. If you let of the gas a little its still pretty rough but not as bad. I pulled the codes off of the computer and every thing comes back ok. I'm pretty sure the transmission is an E4OD.

Have you had the truck since new? I just installed a shift kit in my 84 f150 c6 5.8L truck and it shifts hard enough to skip the cd. Maybe the previous owner (if there was one) has installed a kit.

Might just try doing some service on the trans. Change the trans fluid and filter. While the pan's off, take the opportunity to install a drain plug. The fluid/filter condition makes a huge difference on the E4OD.

Have fun!

Our work truck, 93 F350, had the same problem after a fluid filter change. Turns out the tranny was down about 1 1/2 liters, added the fluid problem was solved.
It almost threw you out of the cab when it shifted from 1 to 2 Especialy if you drove the truck when it was cold.

Ill try fluid and filter but I'm pretty sure thats not it. I bought the truck brand new in Feb '97. Its been the best truck I have ever owned, got 140,000 on it and still going strong. One thing i failed to mention is about 6 months after I got the truck I got it in some deep water and toasted the solenoids in the valve body, and wound up with just one gear. I took it back to the dealer still under warranty and they fixed it. It shifted fine until about a year ago it started shifting hard on 1-2, then recently 2-3 and 3-4 has started to shift hard. The computer controls the line pressure in the E40D if I'm not mistaken, right? Anyway the way its shifting now cant be good, and I hope I can figure it out soon. Thanks.
