Like 85BigBlock, I pay 37.50/yr on my '88 S15 and my '83 F250. My wife's '02 Blazer ran just under $200.00 this year. The required Safety/IM test runs about 43.00, but some places will cut a deal.
on my 2001 supercrew nata book at 27000 retail 23,000 trade tax for 2004 are 104.00 in minnesota
That is one thing I forgot to mention.
I know MN charges a percentage of book value of vehicle that are newer then 10 years old (i think).
After that you just get charged the base rate unless you have speical plates.
I wouldn't know for sure though. The newest vehicle I have ever owned is my 93 Pontiac with conservation plates. Thet charge a minimun of around $80.00 a year for those.
Well King Triton, you aren't alone..... I just got my renewal notice today from the state of Colorado, will cost me $361.56 for my '03 F150XL. License fee is only $54.92, ownership tax is $306.64.
I love living here, but I do question myself occasionally!
Arizona is a bunch a crooks. I just got the wifes expi renewal notice and for one year $328.10 and $597.94 for two years. So there is always places that it is worst and this is for a 2001
Guys, here's an idea for you- don't register. You might not have to. Here in Michigan registration is required for motor vehicles to 'operate' on the highway. 'Operate', according to my law dictionarys, means to run a bussiness [Ballentine's, Black's 2nd, Black's 3rd ]. From what I have been able to ferret out from reading many cases, to operate a motor vehicle you must be carrying passengers or freight for pay. Does your truck do that ? Or do you just carry yourself, your family (guests, they don't pay a fare ) and your own stuff around ? You may be able to travel with an owner's name plate. To travel in a private property automobile and to operate a motor vehicle is not the same thing. The local constabulry may well see what you are doing as civil disobedience- do you have the stomach for that ? If you were ticketed for improper registration, is the fine less money than buying a new plate ? Where do you live, and where do you work ? Are the local law enforcement guys willing to let you explain why you have done what you have done ? Or do you go directly to jail ? Something to think about, anyway. DinosaurFan
