Question License Plate Fees

I received my plates yesterday and was amazed the registration indicated the renewal fee next year (Jan 12) will be $241.

I am interested in what it is costing others around the US & Canada for their 350's annual registration fees.

A lot depends on what weight you registered it at. In my state, the registration fees are $40 for vehicles under 5k. Anything over that, the rates increase dramatically. After 10k, you begin entering into the commerical rates. Welcome to the big leagues! I almost fell off of my chair when I saw my rates.

$73.50 is what it costs for me, I think my brother pays the same for his mazda 3. I have F350 with 9900# rating I think, dads dually with 13300# is also $73.50 a year. I can't believe some of the crazy rates people have to pay to register a vehicle.

I live in IL as well, are the sticker prices going up next year ($158 to $241)? Also, what is with the safety inspection every 6 mo, that is new to me. State requirement or local?

I thought they would go up, thanks, I think.

The inspection thing is state, I'm pretty sure for anything with a D plate which anything over 8k requires (think over 8 and less than 12). This is my third 350, never had one before and got ticketed last spring for not having one (it is a class 3 Misdemeanor). Claimed ignorance and did me no good. My current one is good until 5/11. The inspection is no big deal. Will see if I can find you a link.....

From their site (can't find the D stuff but here is the B stuff which many have incorrectly on their big trucks)

"B-truck license plates are issued to Second Division vehicles weighing 8,000 pounds or less. B-truck license plates have blue characters on a white background. B-truck plates were replated over the 12 registration months of 2003."

You should all move to Colorado. Registering my '11 F-350 was $1274.00. Just re-registered my '03 Dodge 3500, $312.00 + $60.00 annual emissions test. Of course, that's private non-commercial. I don't think I'd like to see the commercial rates.

That will be in the vicinity of $1100.00 next year. My 4 year old Vette is over $700.00. One would think Colorado should have the best roads in the country with their license plate renewal rates but the opposite is true, some of the worst roads to be had.
