Sorry to go on about this, but while working on my truck this afternoon, I noticed that whoever owned this truck before me had ran a wire from the solenoid on the firewall down to the starter. Did they do this to bypass the PATS?

You can find out for yourself, by using the NON pats key in your ignition and see if it starts the truck. That would be the key that DOES NOT have the big plastic end. If it starts the truck, the PATS has been bypassed. Oh, by the way. If you have an after market remote start installed in a PATS enabled Ford, it bypasses the system. Only Fords own dealer installed $600 remote start is considered by Ford to not bypass the PATS system.

Not to get off topic but $600 dollar is a bit of an exaggeration. I just had the remote start installed in my wife's truck and it cost $335.00 installed. The only reason that it cost that much was because I wanted the remote that had it all instead her carrying 2 remotes.

I'll betcha you don't live in Canada, do ya?

Up here the dealer quoted me $559.95 plus taxes, installed. That adds up to $643.95.

Hey nex813, did you find out about that wire?

I am looking at buying a 2000 and PATS won't let it start. Bypassing PATS would let me figure out how mucj OTHER work needs done to the truck.

thanks.
