I think, and forgive me if I'm wrong, that if you have the PATS on the key, it would be visible. It would stick right out of the metal part of the key, not in the plastic. I may be wrong though.
You should have the Pats system. You should have a small red light on the dash or the word (Theft) that blinks on the cluster. The key should have a larger than normal plastic head on the end of it. The light or (Theft)will blink until you turn the key to the on position. The light will glow steady for three seconds then turn off.
You can not see the chip inside the plastic of the key.
I got ahold of the local ford dealer and they ran my VIN and found that my truck did in deed come with remote entry (I didn't get the key fob with my truck) and also the alarm system. Ordering the remote and hopefully the alarm will now come work.
Nex813 these vehicles didnt come with an alarm system in them. There is a panic button on the remote that makes the horn bomp, but its not an alarm system that goes off if someone breaks into your vehicle. It is equipped with pats antitheft. The vehicle will not run unless it is started with your programmed key. They can break in and steal your stuff, but they wont be able to start the vehicle.
There is no operating it. If you are using a key that is not programmed for your truck, it will not start. If you have keys made, they are a dealer item, you have to go through a series of activities to program the truck to accept those keys. Be sure when you due this that you have all the keys that belong to that truck. When you start the process it erases all keys that were previously programmed (I'm not sure if it erases the 2 original keys)
You're right, it's not an "alarm" system, the dealer said "anti-theft" device, sorry for the mix up. Thanks for clarifying that. About the copied keys, thanks for the info, I'll make sure that I will do that when and if I get keys made. Is this process involved when I get a new remote or do they just program the new remote to the truck? Sorry for me being so confused, I am a recent convert to Ford.
Try turning the ignition from off to on 5 times or 8 times stopping in the on position. Do this fairly quickly. The final stop in the on position the door locks should cycle. Then press any button on key fob and locks should cycle. press any button on second key fob and locks should cycle again. Turn key off and locks should cycle again. Key fobs should now be programmed.
As for the keys, if you have two keys already and want to program a third key. Cycle both original keys in the ignition and then the new key, and the new key should now be programmed. (NOTE) this procedure doesent work with all models. If you have only one original key this procedure will not work. You will have to go to a dealer.
OK, thanks for the info Troll45. I guess I'll be going to the dealer. I only have 1 key with the plastic, the other 1 I have is a full metal one that is glued to a tag with all the information upon it.
