Well, that's what happens when you start modifying stuff. It takes a while to work out all the bugs and sometimes takes several tries. I'm having tire problems, L/S problems, vibration issues, gas mileage issues, speedo recalibration and shift point problems. Take some time to get all these bugs out. Waiting for those 2 new rear tires to come in so I can "hopefully" fix the vibration problem. Then I need a new Locker, that's 800 bucks with install. ew boy. I guess that's all part of the hobby
Detroit lockers are 600+ bucks dude. They are the most expensive locker you can buy, but it will be the LAST one I'll ever have to buy. Worth the extra couple hundred if you ask me.
I'm outa here for the night. Talk to you tomorrow.
Installed everything and figured out the loss of power problem. The old alternator was indeed bad, so the new one went in. As you all may remember, even with the alternator installed I was still using battery power. (Yes I understand that you still use battery power, the alternator just gives the battery more voltage/amperage to compensate) SO we busted out the schematic and let me tell you, Chilton made that bad boy simple! Unfortunately, they made it entirely too simple. LoL. I could not find the fuse or wires they mentioned. Even after that, the ford directory said the fuse was in slot 16, but no fuses were in slot 16. The above-mentioned wires disappeared into a giant nest, that ford calls a bundle right above the intake manifold, inside that cowl. So, since there is a 20A fuse listed in the schematic, my roommate decided that he would start pulling fuses that were 20A. Needless to say, he found a burnt out bus fuse. We replaced the fuse and the damn thing worked!
So we are cruising, having a decent time. I hit boost and it was pretty wicked. I decided that it would be cool to have my roommate drive so I could listen to the engine a little more intently. After we hit boost the second time, we started to smell fuel. We pull into the driveway eventually, and I get out to check out the engine compartment. I saw white smoke and decided to check under the truck. I saw this large amount of fuel POURING out from the engine bay to the floor. I yelled to shut it down so we could inspect for flames, and act accordingly. Damn, Coast Guard training that I actually remembered
What happened?
The hose from the fuel rail to the FMU had disconnected itself, somehow, most likely while under boost. It is a simple fix, and nothing looks to be damaged. It only looks like I lost about ¼ tank of gas. Talk about being lucky, driving for a half mile to get home with fuel gushing in your engine compartment and NO casualties. What a night.
LoL..thanks tom. I will be up and running tonight....can give a more detailed update then...also, if I run well for the rest of the week, I will set up a dyno run a week from friday. Awesome!
you bet Tom...I have your email addy...I will send it there before I post on here...give yaa first dibs...btw, this is PRE intercooler/injectors/maf/chip!!!
Oh man! I went for a test drive to give it some gas. I finally finished up the break-in period. I ran through first (very quick!!!) and shifted into 2nd, and let me tell you, I chirped the CRAP out of my tires. I didnt shift any different than before, so I have to adapt to the added power. Im telling you guys, this truck is quick now. I want to line up next to a GT and see how we do.
Dude!!!!! We NEED to see the dyno man. I'm dying of anticipation. Scan that puppy in and post it in your gallery.
I just sold my Hauyabusa motorcycle so i have extra money for an SC if yours holds up. But you NEED to be my test monkey first for 6 months or so before I invest the money to make sure yours doesn't break or anything.
on a lighter side.. Check out this thread, read the whole thing, i'm in rare form this morning and i can't stop cracking myself up. great bust on Joe too.
Also, can you post or email some detailed pictures of the installed SC???
How does it perform in first gear?? That's important for me because when i'm mudding, i never leave first gear and am usually tachin' an average of 3500-4000 rpm's runnin' through the thick stuff. Would I be boosting at these rpm's??
