I've seen two types of plugs, one type has a seating washer on it that crushes when you tighten down the plug. On the outside of the plug box, it will list 2 different torque requirements for each type of seated plug. there are flanged plugs, and then there are crush washer seated plugs. Flanged plugs are supposed to be hand tightened and then turned only 1/8 turn after that and crush washer seated plugs are 1/2 turn after seat, I believe.

Tom
I wanted to revisit this issue here.
Tom,
Again for clarification; you are saying that you tightened down your plugs, (i.e. "torqued them down") and you still had a threaded portion of the plug exposed ABOVE the plug hole in the head?
If this is the case, I can't imagine that being proper. The 2 types of plug torquing you refer to do exist. But, in both cases, the plug WILL SEAT against the head. Some applications call for use of crush washer, some do not.
Ask yourself this: If the plugs do not seat against the top surface of the head, what are the seating against? What are you tightening them against?
Remember, the ceramic insulator is the main player in determining the heat range of the plug, not the (length of the) threads.
I do believe that longer threaded bodies are more common applications for aluminim heads, to help prevent spark plug blow-out.
Maybe somebody will correct me if I am wrong, but I sure don't believe anybody should be driving around w/ a portion of their spark plugs threads showing above the head.

Always looking to learn something though......

Brian,

Thinking about the plug thread issue we were talking about, I ran down at lunch and took a close look from under my wheel well, which is easy now that my truck is jacked, and what I thought were exposed threads before is actually just an extended seating jacket and not threads. When I installed them from the top of my truck (prior to my lift) it appeared as if they were threads, but their not.

Score: Brian 1 Tom 0
Brian,

Your lagging behind. I posted this days ago. So now the score is: Brian 1 Tom 1

Thanks for the point.

Ok guys...Found out why I am struggling with power. My alternator is TOAST! I am hoping to hook up with NAPA and get a new one for 70 dollars. Hopefully this will be the last problem I have with the SC. I cant wait to get FINAL pictures up and running, let alone my truck. Will keep updated!

Wont fit 44's Nice thought though. 35's are the biggest and I'm hoping these 32's wear out quick so I can get them

Yeah, well thanks but don't be too impressed. Ever since I lifted the truck and put the bigger tires on it's been one small headache after another. Take me a while to get all the kinks out, just cause I'm treading on unfamiliar territory.
