allrighty guys...I love my Fords. you guys know that. But, I dare any of you to come up with a 13 second (more like 12) that get's 30 MPG.. Just keep that inind next time you're bashing Cheby :-)

I'll probably get my **** kicked for this. But, if you think this is an uneducated opinion, you are fooling yourself.
Ford good, Cheby OK.....Bavarian Motor Works...makes a mockery of both. these guys have sedans that handle better than my car, with more power than my truck.... I dunno how they do it, but it's amazing none th elss. They make a friggin sedan that will pace a Corvette thru the slalom.......whaddaya gonna do?

the best milage my LX has gotten was 29mpg (60mph steady cruise, sea level)... but that was with the 3.73's.
I've not checked milage with the 4.10's, but, I know it's worse.

Hey Gtex, you're going to get your Ford fan status revoked!
That 6 speed you have, two overdrive gears? Or is 5th 1:1? And what ratio is 6th?
What rear gear ratio?
I can lean a Ford out until it gets 30MPG on the highway... but who cares? My V10 gets 16MPG, with probably twice as much weight and the aerodynamics of a brick... put your motor in my F250 and see what it gets for mileage!
Heh, I can get 30 mpg with my truck. Just have to have a few minor details met. Like a 10% grade (going downward of course), a strong tailwind, and a large system of sails mounted in the bed. "Argh, hoist the mizenmast! Full sails! We be makin' good time today!"

Transmission ratios- looks like 2 ODs
T56= 2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/0.74/0.50
Rear end ratio= 3.42
Now, that looks like a super OD setup. And it is. But the tires are under 27" tall. This car pulls surpsingly well in 6th gear at under 2000RPM. It says a lot about the power band of the motor and the aerodynamics.
I wonder if we could keep one of our trucks at highway speed with a .50 OD ratio? There's a lot more air to push against.
One of the other threads was talking about a T56 conversion for FEs. It can obviously handle the power in a lightweight sports car (I think the Viper runs one as well) , but I don't know about using it to tow or in a heavy vehicle.
I'd love to get my truck below 2000RPM at highway speeds :-)
Tremec just came out with a 500 and 600 foot lb rated TKOs. There are also make bellhousings to bolt it up to the FE. I might take this path someday after I learn to rebuild the C6. I love racing with a stick but I was afraid of the stock TKO which was only rated at 475 ft lbs. Dropping the clutch with slicks usually ends up tearing the tranny up. The 600 should hold it fine.
The O/D ratio on the 600 can be bought at .64 which would be a dramatic RPM drop.
A lot of the LS1 guys are running the T56 with gobs of torque at the rear wheels. In the 500-700 lb-ft range. I may be mistaken, but I think they are only upgrading the clutch and the rear end.
