It would be a bloody shame if he twisted the input shaft on the 3-speed. Or broke a motor mount. Or any of the other things you and I know will go wrong with an overpowered FE powered truck
my truck is a 2wd shortbed flareside with a 352 and a three speed on the column with a new aircleaner, petronix electronic ignition,8mm wires, and 40,000 volt coil. besides that the truck is stock
My 352 is pretty stock except for headers, and the 4bbl adapter with the 750 Holley on it. I put a 4 spd in it and it has 3.25 gears out back. It ran low 18's. ya, nothing to sneeze at. I was shifting at 3200 rpm and going thru the traps at about 3200 rpm. It just does not pull any harder higher up in the rpm band. Just makes more noise. I was just kinda walkin' it off the line so not to smoke the clutch or hop the rear tires off the ground.
Not to worried about this truck going fast...have my '69 to do that in
I was in the truck when he raced the mustang, and I talked to the kid in the mustang today, he is so cocky right now, he had the guts to tell me he will whoop my trucks( u know what) up and down the road, what do u think, I think i got him easily
1967 Ford f-100 2wd longbed
Freshly rebuilt 352 bored 60 over
9.0:1 compression flat top pistons
ported heads completely rebuilt all new parts
mild cam like .486 valve lift
2 barrell carb 500cfm holley with open element air cleaner
long tube headers, 2.5" exhaust through glasspacks
brand new clutch and resurfaced flywheel
3 speed tranny column shifter too 3.25 gears with street radials
what do u think?
Desktop dyno came up with 310HP and 390Ft. lbs. but i am not sure how accurate that is, I have been told it could run in the mid 16's by others on FTE. we will find out when i get my new steering column.
that is just what desktop dyno said, i am not questioning ur reason, i thought it was a little high myself, but i like to tell people the results of 310hp and 390 ftlbs.
heres how i break it down imo
porting 10 hp
cam 5-10hp
carb 15hp
headers 15hp (with mufflers)
overbore 5 hp
stock about 250 hp
so 300 to 305 is reasonable imo.
That looks like a Comp Cams cam, are you sure it wasn't .468" lift? Because that would match the 33-221-3. I ran desktop dyno with that, and came up with 304hp @ 4500, and 416ft-lbs @ 2000 rpm.
I dont think you have a chance. Change your gears to 3.73's or 3.89's. This will make a HUGE difference.
Also, with a 600cfm 4-barrel in the desktop dyno, I'm showing 320hp @ 4500&5000rpm (it's the same at both rpm's) and 423ft-lbs @ 2500 rpm.
Change your gears and I think you can beat him. Otherwise, when you shift into high gear, it's just gonna shut down.
My truck with a stock worn out 360 ran an 18.4 in the quarter. I can see a shortbed 390 truck running low 16s maybe. I'll tell you this: There is one heck of a humongous, mind boggling difference between an 18.4 and a 14.5 second quarter. I cross the 1/8th at about the same speed now as I did the quarter with the 360.
I had a truck with a stock 360 and C6 that I put on a stock 390 4bbl intake and a 600 Holley, dual exhaust (no headers), N-50's and just broke into the 16's.
