Loved the old ones as a kid. It made the list of vehicles I HAD to have in my life. In '96 I was looking to get a good snow vehicle that could haul the wife, kid, and two Labs. I knew what I wanted. Thought I would have to work on convincing the wife. We passed an All Red '95 on the road one day. She said "I like that truck". The next week, we were at the dealer buying a '96 All Red Bronco. It is a solid truck. I hope it holds up as well as my dad's '76 F100 he took to Iceland. That was one mean vehicle.

Did I mention that the top comes off (or will soon).

It now hauls the wife, TWO kids and THREE Labs. Still no need to replace it. Who needs 4 doors? Two door vehicles look better. Unless it is the 4 door Bronco (Centurian)

Why drive a Bronco?

Broncos are the bomb, that's why!

We bought our '86 302 (aka. Baby Toy) back in June of 2000. We were expecting our first child and were needing a more family oriented vehicle for transportation, other than the three other Fords in the yard. At first, we saw a '78 White Bronco beast, but on further study, this was a bondo bucket from h*ll and had several frame issues that we were not about to correct within the three month time limit! A week or so later, the "Baby Toy" appeared on the market scene.

This truck was owned by an extremely **** retentive individual who kept immaculate records on every dime spent. The poor guy had to sell it so that he could purchase a large family vehicle... ie. A Chevy Lumina Mini-van. We felt bad for the guy, because he had to give up his most beloved, prized possession, that had enabled him to "catch" this woman of his dreams (with four children to tag along). Unfortunate for him, but awesome for us....

We bought this truck for $5,800. I know many of you will be saying, "WHAT????" As I stated before, this guy kept great records and he had spent well over $10,000 to keep this truck running right. It also helped that the Engine, Transmission, and Transfer case were all rebuilt within 20,000 miles. And my husband (being a ASE Master Tech) knew the person who had done the rebuilds and basically, there is no better qualified person in a 150 mile radius. Respect is given to those who deserve it, and he is one of them. It also had a well-cared for 3 year old paint job. This truck was as straight and true as you could get, for an '86 never wrecked, Bronco.

Well, it cannot say that it has never been involved in a traffic accident now. In March of 2003, My husband was driving down to Jacksonville on I-95, when three pretty young ladies (ha!), headed for Daytona Spring Break, in a Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible, decided to hit the "SOFT SHOULDER!!!!" and then spinnout in front of him. Thank goddness they had their seat belts on at this point because they got hit. Baby Toy's right front tooth sank into the driver's A-pillar and wasted it. The car held up surprisingly well and none of the girls were hurt, it was not driving anywhere though except for on the back of a flat-bed! Meanwhile, after the tow truck driver pulled the bumper out from behind the Passenger side tire, she drove home, pretty as you please... Imagine that! And I am not lying!

Now comes the part that I would like to forewarn you other Bronco owners about. Even though Florida is considered a no fault state, whomever gets the ticket has to pay for the damages. They got the ticket for reckless driving and their insurance had to pay for our repairs. Our truck was inspected at our local Ford dealership (because my husband worked there) by the insurance company guy. This man made remarks to the body shop people that in turn were told to my husband, stating that this truck was going to Georgia. For those of you unfamiliar with "total" laws, in Florida, once a vehicle is titled "Totaled", it can never be used on the road.... but if the said "totaled" truck is transfered to Georgia, it can be driven and sold as if it had never been involved in a wreck... Our truck had damage to the right front clip without any frame damage. There was no reason to total it except for the repair cost and the guy had someone lined up who wanted it in Georgia. We lucked out though, somewhere within their system the lines got crossed and we received our check before the "totaled" department called trying to get our truck. I told them simply that I had no idea what they were talking about and my truck was already in the shop being fixed! He-he, try to screw us, will you? Nope, not happening and we still have our Baby Toy today and many more, god-willing!

I like something comfortable with all power accessories but durable and with 4WD as well. So the Bronco fits the bill perfectly.

I bought my Bronco 3 years ago because I needed something that was full size, wanted something that was 4WD, and suited the family. The only real con to the truck was the P.O.S. Mazda 5 speed that was originally in the truck. What a glorious day when I finally destroyed that! Out with M5OD, in with S5-42, and now the Bronco pulls anything!

If you have to ask you wouldn't understand, but I'll try to explain anyways.

I've got 2 broncos and want more. One's an '87 302 AOD and the other's an '84 300 C-6. The '84 my parents bought brand new off the dealer for $12,500 and handed it to me when i was 16, and i bought the '87 for $800 w/ 100,000 kms on it 4 years ago. Now the '87 has 515,00kms and still running as strong as the day I bought it , and the '84 my parents made odometer go around once and gave it to me @ the second time it hit 123,000 kms now it rests @ 321,000 kms w/ a broken # 3 cylinder connecting rod. I have a new used drivetrain for it and working on puting it in, hopefully finish this next month. putting an '87 302 efi drivetrain in the '84 same as my other bronco, wish I could get ahold of an EFI 300 engine and harness but all I got is the 302 engine and harness. I don't think I'll buy any other vehicle except a bronco

I had my requirements set forth before I ended up with one:
a) must be able to sleep 2 comfortably
b) should have 4x4
c) should have reasonably ground clearance
d) should have a good amount of cargo space
e) should be able to tow at least 5000 lbs
f) have seating for 4 - 5 people

I got mine from a government auction, BTW.

Talking yea baby

i agree with 79 trailer special. ive got 2 broncos an 84 and my fav my 79 the 84 was getting to the more comfortable level of vehicles when evryone decided the 80's sucks so the cars should to. man i hate the 80's but none the less the 84 still runs and is still a cool truck.

but my 79 man this is what ive always wanted in a ford. big a$$ motor (351m 5.8l) big tires a lot of room and uglyier than hell. i couldnt ask for more. big foot aint got nothin. cant tune up that one in the dirve way. plus when you pull up next to chicks its an awsome view of the twin peaks (wink wink) dont take offence ladies its just a guy thing.

Smile They are fun!

Well this chick digs HER Bronco! I've always loved the big Broncos and as soon as I could got my own. I'm on my second one right now, the first was an 86 XLT. Now I have a 92 Nite and it's awesome! I like them because they have enough room to seat 5, are 4x4, are terrible on gas, hauls my hockey stuff easily, easy to park and still have the feel of a fullsize truck. I use it as my runabout vehicle. For big jobs I use my 99 Super Duty diesel 4x4. Besides if I wanna go topless I have my 70 Cougar convertible.

83 bronco, 300 6, 490k+ miles on it, engine was replaced at 125k(blown headgasket) with an engine from a 92 f150 that had 170k miles on it, so all in all the engine has 535k on it, Rear end was replaced just a few hundred miles ago, Tranny, front end, transfer case are all original. Body has very little rust cept in a few spots, tailgate is totally rusted out... see my gallery for pics

I'm gonna try and get this sucker to 600k at the very least. Its always fun to hear people complain, "Man i have gotta get a new truck, this one has 70k on it! Hey how many miles does your bronco have?" "490k" *Eyes bug out and they just sort of stare"

i've got 180k on my 88 bronco.... that 300 6 is a nice motor, lotsa torque, but not lotsa power.... but overall a great motor. myself i'm gonna stick with my 351, though think i'm gonna ditch the auto tranny.

wow you KNOW how many miles it has WOW
1979 bronco 351m rebuilt/c6 rebuilt-built out np205 limited slip (all around) quad front HD rear gt(roll) bar bells and wistles dentless
got abit of fiberglass work to do and electrial/ *other
1978 bronco 351m(dead) np235 still killer np205 battered
pulling motor to build out to 400 or stroke it and swaping with the 351m seen above

reasons the c6 is planned for towing but other the geardriven np205 transfercase ARE bullet proof
solid axle isn't coshy but as the name applys SOLID
the 335 series motor is the **** borne to fly redesigned as the 400 to move heavy cars then later trucks even tho it was not optimized by the factory(emmissions laws and LOW octane gas was all the rage)
what better for interior trim but steel plastic rattle and squeek drives me nuts
but its big and made to do what is not suggested today

the original big bronco built ford tougher than it had to be
