my dad bought my mom a 96 bronco with the front end crushed by a tree falling on it. he rebuilt it for her. then it was handed down to me and i rebuilt it for myself with new paint and 4" lift. Then i rolled it on its side in the winter. A week later i had it banged out riveted on a morror and put a new door window in and it still is running strong with no mechanical problems.
I have a limousine service and have had nothing but good results with the Ford drive trains. A few weeks ago I saw a 87 Bronco on e-bay that reminded me of my fathers 69 k5 Blazer (He loved that truck). I bought it to restore for him and to give it to him for fathers day. I drove it home..........Time to think of another gift idea..........this one's mine.
Besides I don't have to buy an alarm system........I can here it rusting in the driveway.
Actually mine is in quite good shape for unrestored condition. It’s got the normal tailgate rot and some paint problems, but it’s much better than its fender bender history might imply. Actually it's worst visible damage doesn’t even come from the above list, but from the "domestic" units passion for fire hydrants (left front fender) and the embedded in concrete mail box (right side edge of the hood & some molding).
lolol, sounds like you've had some fun, the only dents on my truck is from when i got so ****ed at it, i punched the front fender ike 6 times when it left me stranded on teh beach. that was the worse, but i felt bad after. i think it learned its lesson, it hasnt done it to me again after that. lol. i swear, i can never sell this truck, its like a part of me now.
BigWhtBco - I can relate to what u say. Ive started getting upset at mine the (rare) times it let me odwn, only to realize that it was cause I let it down 1st!
After my wife cliped the hydrant w the fender (to aviod bumping a tree) I took a grease pencil and wrote "My Wife Did This" on the fender w an arrow to the dammage. Drove it for 6 mo and almost got divorced over it. But hey, it wasnt me that hit the hydrant and I just wanted to make sure EVERYONE knew it.
So I could run over little pieces of junk like off of Fast n' Furious. I have a 93 eb /351 efi. I needed a reliable truck when I joined the Coast Guard and got sent to the U.P. of MI.
Ever notice that when you get into places like the UP or Northern Idaho (where I lived for 2 years) where the weather likes to change at the drop of a hat (usually for the worse) that you see WAY more BLUE OVALS than anything else??? Just something I've noticed more than once...actually counted them on the street corner in Sandpoint, ID - Fords made up 7 out of every 10 trucks/SUVs!!!
I drive an Idaho (translation - no rust, and she knows how to drive in snow!) 95 Bronco XL with a 5.0L and a 5-speed and only 104K miles on her. Real bare-bones, but man can she go anywhere!! Towed the biggest U-Haul trailer they make, fully loaded, 1800+ miles from N. ID all the way back to IL (through the mountains, etc.) with not one lick of trouble.
In the two years I've owned her, NOTHING beyond normal wear-and-tear items have had to be replaced or fixed. At some point, some idiot put oil in the transmission fluid and ruined the bladder in the master cylinder, so I had to have it and the slave replaced, but other than that she's been a dream.
I drive her for a few reasons:
1.) Not many Broncos on the road, especially here in Iowa (I know, I know - Iowa drivers. Explains a lot).
2.) Can go from being my huntin' rig one minute to my kid hauler the next (and with my vinyl floor and interior, it's easy to hose out after either one!)
3. Sits high, rides firm, turns on a dime, and never gets stuck!! (I guess I really haven't tried yet, though...)
4. My wife hates driving it (too big for her liking) so I never have to worry about it not being here when I want to drive!!!
#1 It's Mine #2 Its A Bronco Not An Suv #3 My Husband Hates It #4 I Am 5'4'' And 98 Lbs It's About Time I Am Bigger Than Everyone Else #5 I Do Not Feel Like Im Driving A Rollerskate #6 I Live In Mass And Drive Through The Big Dig Daily Those Merging Detour Lanes Others Get Out Of My Way. #6 It Is Better At Listening Than My 4 Grown Kids #7 I Consider It Like One Of My Kids. #8 I Bought It New In 92 And Its Never Let Me Down
My Bronco has been sitting on the side of my house for a year. On my birthday the timing chain went out. Just put a built 351 in her on tuesday, now I have to buy all the accesories and Fuel Injection Kit for her. However I have visited her every day like a devoted father does to let her know I think about her every day. I tell her that soon we will be together again, with more power, more torque, more attitude, more hieght, TO RUN THOSE NOISY LITTLE FREAKIN RICE BURNER SPEED BUMP'S OFF THE ROAD!!!!!
Well I had only been a few Broncos before the one I have now and I always liked them but for some reason never looked at buying one. I have had a 86 F150, 87 4x4 Ranger and a 99 Ranger. I have always been a Ford guy and I was on my way to purchase a $1k F150 with rusted out floor boards and no A/C when my wifes grandfather called and told me that he was standing in front of a Bronco. So I went and looked at it and fell in love but did not have the dough. So he ponied up the money $4k and told my wife and I that we could pay him back later. I drove it home and within weeks started having all kinds of trouble (but I think most of the trouble was my mechanic), anyway, I replaced rear seals, u-joints, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, vacuums, actually I can't even remeber everything, then I was driving down a major interstate and smoke starting pouring from the truck, the transmission went out. So I parked it and got an estimate. Once realizing that I had not paid my wifes grandfather for the truck and now I needed $1200 to fix the Bronco I decided to sell it but my wifes grandfather wanted the Bronco and had the money to fix it. He had the tranny rebuilt but it sat in the driveway for months. I decided to sell my 99 Ranger and get a fullsize and my wifes grandfather made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He agreed to buy my Ranger for $3K and give me the Bronco. I took $1K of the money and had the leak in the front diff fixed, the valve cover gaskets fixed, tilt fixed, and the door locks fixed. So now it seems to be perfect.
Right now I am looking for some 33x12.5 tires and it already has a 3" body lift. BTW, the Ranger I traded had 34K miles on it but was completely bare, I bought one of the most basic Rangers on the market in 99. So I got a pretty good deal.
I have a Bronco because it is FullSized, 4x4, rough & tough, can be topless, and just kick some major ***! I love to intimidate other vehicles on the road, like lowriders or imports.
2300 bucks 5 years ago and it was down the street. Didn't think I'd love the old beast so much. Never even ran a Ford before that. Would love to keep her now, it's like driving an arcade game, and in the city? She's the best truck ever...it'll parallel park anywhere in Philly and every car on the road gets out of her way, even the cabs! She looks great clean. Working on pics, she's listed in the classifieds (and it's killing me everyday she's there).
I absolutely love my truck. There is nothing like being able to take the top off and have one of the most unique vehicles on the road. The color combination of black and tan 2-tone, a tan interior with black accents... i love it. The power of the 351, the versatility of the 4x4, the sheer size of the beast, the comfort, the sound, and the grin my girlfriend gets every time she climbs up into the truck. It looks great clean, and it looks even better dirty. What else could I possibly need in a truck?
