Waste Gate
I own a 02 F350SD 7.3L. I changed the oil and fuel filter last night and installed a Volant Cold Air System. When I test drove the truck after the install I could really hear the turbo and the power change. The question I have is when I shift from 3rd to 4th and the RPM's drop I hear a back pressure sounds coming from the Air Cleaner area. Is this normal? And is it the waste gate opening? Thanks

What you're hearing isn't the wastegate. It's probably turbo stall. When your truck shifts into a higher gear, your engine rpms, and turbo rpms, drop quickly. What your hearing is the whoosh that is caused by a sudden change in pressure on the two sides of the impeller wheel. It happens all the time, but you're just hearing it now with the new intake.
