my turbo is a garrett ball bearing turbo. will it hurt to unhook my waste gate? when it shifts gears i can hear the waste gate open and let pressure out is it good to unhook it? if so how do i unhook it?
If you want to unhook the wasegate on the right side of the turbo you'll see the wastegate canister with a red hose hooked to it, take that red line off and plug it into one of your IC clamps, that will do it. If you overboost though you'll set the ses light. I did it to mine and i seemed to loose fuel mileage and risked blowing the turbo so i put it back on.
I unhooked the line and I did not like the way the truck acted.. It didn't throw a light but it acted funny.. weird idle and shifted differently.. this all coulda been just paranoia too.
I have mine unhooked... no complaints so far. I can build good boost too, even being stock tuned and fueled. I don't know the book method for adjusting it, but making the actuator shorter will put more preload on the wastegate (and vice versa). I have mine cranked all the way tight.
i run mine unhooked, it builds boost faster unhooked, but you got to watch it i can get over 25 easy and that will shorten your turbo life from what i've heard.
You're probably running out of oil from the HPOP. Get the codes read and I'm sure you'll have "ICP Uncontrollable" or "ICP under expected values" or whatever....
i have the boost anhilater on my truck and it still sets the ses light off when i run over 30psi of boost.

Like Joe said^^^ Check the codes. There are other things that can set the SES light and codes. I have not seen a code for "overboost" with my MAP regulator, but have still seen ICP and EBP codes that set the light under WOT.
how should the waste gate be adjusted? can you adjust it? turn the rod in or out.
If you are running a 38R and stock injectors, just set it so that the wastegate never opens up. You aren't running enough boost on the BB turbo to require the wastegate to be functional. The 38R can handle 40 psi of boost, and with stock injectors, you're more in the 30'ish region.
You can do this two ways. One, pop off the rod from the wastegate arm, and screw it down to shorten the rod. Apply air to the actuator nipple to extend the arm and connect back to the wastegate arm. If you tighten it down enough, you should just barely barely get the rod connected to the arm again. The second option is to wire it shut. Buy some wire, and wrap it around the arm so it can't open. Looks ugly under the hood, but it works too.

You cannot hear the wastegate. That's noises from the intake side that you hear.

By default, the PCM will typically set the overboost code above 24 psi, not at 30. The overboost code will illuminate the CEL for about 30 seconds. A high pressure oil code will illuminate the CEL for 2 minutes. So without scanning for codes, you can kinda have an educated guess as to which code you are throwing. But it's best to hook up a scanner and find out for certain. I'm placing bets on it being the P1211 code.
i dont want to unhook the waste gate and blow my turbo up. and if i get on it and stay in it it runs about 35 to 38psi of boost and the ses light comes on i will pay more attention to how long it stays on.

So Curtis, or anybody else can answer this question, on WOT, my SES light up and stays on for the two minutes, so this is the oil pump not keeping up with the demand on WOT, right ??

Typically, yes, it would be the P1211 code (ICP higher/lower than expected). This usually illuminates the CEL for about 2 minutes. But the only way to know for sure is to scan the codes and see what comes up.
