On the ford cars there is a hole that you drill out bigger to speed up the shifts. It regulates the flow and speed of the fluid and how hard the clutches activate.

Yes, and no!
It's more than just drilling one hole.
And for reverse the application and release of various components can take a few seconds and is in the design!
Make one try to apply faster than the other can release, and its in reverse as well as drive for a split second and you are applying torque to go at the same time?
Ever heard of shock load?
The E4OD is just a more complicated way of adding a gear and a lock up torque converter for better mileage!
You also have to take into account the "exclusivity" of all those new parts that only Ford will have for a while!
It would have been easier to incorporate a GearVendor into the output shaft and a small processor to tell it when to shift in and out of gear and a mechanicaly activated syncroed spline for locking the converter!
I dont see how you can add a separate overdrive/underdrive box to a 4x4. Remember, there is a transfer case bolted to the transmission output housing. An E4OD can be built properly for under $2000 if you can find a decent shop to do it.
The gear vendor is $2600.00 US unless your a dealer or know one that will give it to you for his cost. Also the gearvendor bolts on to the back of your transfer case so no overdrive in 4 wheel drive maybe not a big deal but it might be nice to have the overdrive when plowing if you neen a little speed.
