A buddy needs the trans (his old one dumped) and I wondered what all parts I needed to swap around for this conversion from his old one? (I have a still fresh E4OD from an '89 2WD E350 diesel van with all upgrades)
You're going to need the output shaft for a 4X4.
and the corresponding rear housing to bolt on a transfer case.
The output shaft replacement MAY require the internals of the trans to be removed, then all reinstalled. I know C6 and AOD require stripdown to replace the tailshaft.
I'd estimate 2-4 hours labor at a good shop. IMHO
Depending on your knowledge level, you could do this yourself.
Look fo ATSG service manual, JCW and others sell them.
Just wait, someone else may have a clearer answer!
Yakk, you are correct. You will have to pull the geartrain out to get to the output shaft. It does require some specialized tools to disassemble/re-assemble an E4OD.
