Originally posted by skigalini The trade-off, as I see it, is 'possibly' or 'possibly-not' improving fuel economy by doing the flash at the risk of introducing 'other' annoyances or problems. The October flash-fix especially has me worried, and all these flashes are incorporated together, as I understand. CALL ME CHICKEN. I'm scared to flash to improve MPG at the sake of introducing new problems.
The flashes are all accumulative, but keep in mind, they are weeding out the bad stuff while they add the better stuff. Do not be afraid, the new flash has helped the trucks we have done here.
P.S. I would agree with Tim, if thats the only the only problem you are having, hold off for the spring release...

Andy I belive that all think the accumulative problems buried in each flash is what everyone is concerned with. I did not know that the code that caused problems, in each flash, is subsequently being removed.
You and I know and could imagine that would be the only way to do it, take the bad code out, before the next flash number is released……………..however do we know for sure.
Of all the important interesting items we are learning about this great engine is the lack of consistency within the vast number of dealerships across this country. I am amazed at the lack of professionalism at some dealerships...
And as a follow-up: It is for those very reasons, it is so important to keep this forum informed and for us to read everything presented here. With knowledge & homework, you are in such a considerably stronger position when dealing with your service writer.
I am even thinking of seeing if we could recruit Andy to type out the proper way to ask for what we need..
Actually, I believe, if one reads his material carefully, he has been already doning that. Keep in mind, his position should be considered "delicate". Let's not push our exceptional luck with him...... Fm emtabmm

The service manager is still saying that there is a flash coming out in first quarter this year but still has no timeline on it. I am trying to get a confirmation that mileage and performance improvements taken out in the Oct flash will be an enhancement in the "spring" release. No confirmation yet.
Far as I know the latest flash was released December 12, 2003. There should be another "first quarter 2004", according to the Service Manager at the dealer where I get the warranty work done. There was a posting by emtabmm on a chart of all the releases, dates, and what they cover.
