Emtabmm,

I took my Feb.03' 6.0 in the other day for the Dec. flash. The invoice had 42 12A650 on it. Do you know if it is the Dec flash or not? I took the truck in for rough/erotic idle at stop signs after long runs on the HWY. Truck still has the same issue, any ideas? Any help would be grateful. Oh truck has 7,500 miles on it.

The only thing that I have noticed from the Dec. flash is that cold engine high idle went from approx. 900 rpm to 1000 rpm. Then again maybe they did not get it installed correctly. Seems how it took an extra day to get it back because they had trouble getting the program to take.

I have an 03 Excursion 6.0L PSD (March 03 Build)

Just had 15,000 mile service down at 12,300.

Had updated flash (old one was October)... but I am not sure if I got December or January (which somebody said came out)???

Dealer said that their WDS machine is connected at all times via the net for immediate and/or nightly updates from FMC. The service writer and tech did not know which was updated, but whatever one is was done since they update daily from FMC.

Now for the good news....

December (or maybe January)? update has shown the following improvements (or changes) over the October flash.

1) Highway mileage shows 19.0 on overhead computer.

2) Actual mileage vs fuel computed at 20.7 MPG.

(Using #2 winterized with Power Service winter additive for freeze protection and cetane level).

(Outside temp was 32 F to 39F) during driving).

3) Tip-in and Tip-out is firmer with NO lag.

4) Shift points were raised slightly.

5) Idle remained the same, but does slightly run up to 1,000 for cold starts, but drops back down to 600 - 700 RPM's.

6) Idle will raise if temperature drops of idles for a long time. Touch the brake or gas peddal, and RPM's drop back down.

7) A little bit of turbo "wine" is now heard, but not bad - sounds like a 7.3.

All in all, I am very happy with the latest flash (Dec or Jan??). The pro's out-do the cons.

I recommend the latest FLASH!!!!

Good luck to all... Keep Strok'n (I know but I couldn't resist).

Thanks,

Hey beachbumcook, you have posted the same message on a bunch of threads. Some of them are relative and some aren't. We got it, OK?

Hello SBV45,

I posted the same response on several threads becuase many different people have asked the same question over and over again.

They all relate to flashes, updates, what is the most recent, what do they correct, what are people's experience, what has their mileage been, performance, and the like....

Your right, I did post the same on different threads because there are so many threads asking basically the same question.

I am sure that flash questions this week could have been asnswered or were answered 4 weeks ago (when the 12/12/03 flash came out).

Different thread starters or posters receive email notifications... this way they will know when a new post (that hopefully answers their question) comes along.

Hey, only trying to help since so many others have helped me snce I bought my 03 Excursion.

Didn't mean to ruin your evening or get your blood preasure up.

Take care,

Go to this thread, read completely…. and post. Follow, on page 3..MLF250’s format, it is good…and easy!
Important update to instructions on page 6, 17 posts down from the top of page.

ODOMETER reading at time of problem is critical.
In addition, please read more instructions, bottom of first page, posted by Tim L
Tell as many as you can about this thread.
The simpler the writing (posting) of “problem/odometer” reading………….the easier it will be to collate. Do not need many words. I must reduce all the date into a usable format; extra words will take more time to complete.

Thanks

Seems like when I start asking questions about release nrs on WDS and other info I have picked up on this forum, I get a negative reaction from the service personnel. I am very careful and try to validate or have several sources that say the same thing, but soon a I say the "I" word, I get looks. One writer even went so far as to say I don't get good information off these forums.

I'm calling BS.

SBV I think the one situation was a misunderstanding about posting. This is great stuff and the direction we all want the 6.0 forum to go; you are contributing, less keep the info/questions coming.

Thanks Tim. When I picked up my truck this afternoon, I told the writer that I was interested in hearing as soon as the flash comes out that is supposed to fix mileage and performance issues brought on by the Oct flash. She responded she didn't think there was supposed to be one. Huh?

Anybody got any firm info on that? Any Ford people in the know on what the plans are for future flashes? I am an IT manager and I know software developers have schedules on future enhancements. Ford must have them.

I think that Ford is actually doing IT real time , and maybe not planning to much for future fixes.

Of all the important interesting items we are learning about this great engine is the lack of consistency within the vast number of dealerships across this country. I am amazed at the lack of professionalism at some dealerships.

This is something that everyone dealing with 6.0, and read this forum...must realize, and appropriately take actions to help them selves. That is to go armed to their respective dealerships with up to date and correct information. I am even thinking of seeing if we could recruit Andy to type out the proper way to ask for what we need. Like when the service writer does not know where to get the latest flash,………we should know. I think Ford calls it WDS or something like that.

Again, I have said it before the more knowledgeable we are when pull up the writer, better everything will turn out. Ultimately every time we do PLEASANTLY, show that we know the system, the sooner that person will never make “that” mistake again.

It really sucks to be shown…by the customer where to find the solution to a problem. You can bet, the next 6.0 in to the service lane will receive the correct answer to their owners questions.

We can make a difference.

CHICKEN MAN

I have been tediously following the posts about flashes over the past 3 months. My truck is a May-03 build date on my SDCC Lariat. NO FLASHES YET. I almost did a flash the last week of December, but chickened out. My problem is 11.2 mpg average fuel economy. However, EVERYTHING else is just fine. She's quiet at idle, runs like a scalded ape, etc.

The trade-off, as I see it, is 'possibly' or 'possibly-not' improving fuel economy by doing the flash at the risk of introducing 'other' annoyances or problems. The October flash-fix especially has me worried, and all these flashes are incorporated together, as I understand. CALL ME CHICKEN. I'm scared to flash to improve MPG at the sake of introducing new problems.

Yes ... I posted my data. Can't find it at the moment, but it's there. Also, my 11.2 mpg is 3-tankfulls hand-calculated.

It's about 4-degrees-F. I just want to go to work and come home. Too cold to go running errands. Perhaps when the weather warms up things will change. I DO, however, plug-in my engine block heater every evening as soon as I pull in the driveway. That should help performance a bit, I would guess.
