Thinking of the 07 motor craft 6.0 or mishimoto transmission cooler. What do you think and should I run the de rale 180 degree thermostat? Don’t want to hit 250 plus again due to low speed up mountains.
You were hitting over 250F transmission temps? I've seen my engine oil go there, but not the tranmission, even with the stock OTA cooler. That's alot of heat.
I've heard good things about the coolers you mentioned. I went a different route and found a Dorman 918-216 unit. Install effort in this thread:
I have a 26 row cooler out of a 6.0 in mine. Mine is an early 99, so it doesn't even have the oil to water cooler in the lower radiator tank. I never saw over 165 towing my fifth wheel into a strong headwind (giggity), at 19k gross, from CT to Amarillo, TX.
I’ve used the mishimoto twice and been happy with it. One time was through the radiator and the current is bypassing the radiator due to transmission failure and I haven’t had any issues either way. I also used the derale thermostat with 1/2” ports and had no issues with it and it helped a lot during winter time with transmission temps. The nice thing with the mishimoto is that you can buy a kit that has the 1/2” to 3/8”(I think) hoses so it really is a bolt on kit.
When Brian rebuilt my trans in November, he replaced my contaminated Dorman 6.0 cooler with a new Dorman 6.0 cooler. Which i had also put in about 3 years prior. Brian uses them, I had no issues with the one I installed, but if you want to us Mishimoto, it's your money.
Guess you got about a 50/50 split on OEM or Dorman.
I used to run a 26 row out of a 6.0, but it recently took some damage in an incident. I was going to get another OEM but decided to get a Dieselsite 40 row instead. 2 reasons why I chose the dieselsite...cheaper but not cheap and it's made with JIC style fittings. I did replace the included fittings with push-lok style fittings as i don't like hose clamps.
2 things worth considering...make sure the hose you use is for tranny fluid. I had issues with the hose i started with, it would sweat the fluid through.
I had been trying to figure out why my coolant temps were running slightly higher then they used to. Issue started after my son overheated the truck due to a failed OEM degas tank. Anywho...I recently replaced the radiator just because. after radiator replacement, my temps got back to normal...
So some of your issue could also be the radiator and/ or the tranny cooler within. Just something to think about.

I have a LATE '99 and it doesn't have the cooler built into the radiator. Funny thing is I just replaced the radiator and the CARQUEST replacement HAS the cooler but I see no reason to use it now...

Thanks
I have the 6.0 cooler on my L99 F350 DRW truck. I don't have a transmission temp gage though. I rarely tow but when I do its our nearly 10k bumper pull TT.
This said IF I had it to do again I would have bought the Mishimoto mainly because of their great molded lines. Originally I installed the 6.0 unit with the horrible looking cobbled lines and hardware store fittings-it looked HORRIBLE but thats what most were doing back 15 years ago.
I have since gotten the Mishimoto lines and the installation now looks factory!!
