Hearing a little engine knock in my 7.3 2000 superduty

Guys, I recently hauled a truck back from Alabama and was probably a little hard on the ole gal. I hear a slight knock. It's worse when it is hot. It's not like a hard clatter like loose rod or anthing, Just a knock that i don't hear when i listen to others trucks with this engine. I know it needs an oil change badly. any ideas?

It's probably just #8 injector knocking.
The oil change MIGHT make it better, but I've got a new engine, new injectors and it still knocks.

I am ignorant to the manys of a diesel. It definately needs a oil change. Would the tempature make a difference.??

Our injectors fire off of engine oil (HEUI system). Injector noises can sound like valves out of adjustment on old gas motors. Change the engine oil with a good diesel rated oil and change the fuel filter. Then report back on what the noise is doing. We cannot discount oil issues since it can cause all sorts of problems. Let's rule out the simple stuff first.

Thanks, I am going to but a 5 gallon bucket of Rotella 15-40 tonight. I think it's 53 dollars per 5 gallons.

I saw you state you have over 300,000 miles on yours, is that on a stock engine. I currently have 225,000 and a little change. I had 194,000 when I got it 2 years ago Febuary.

Yes that is on a stock engine and stock injectors. However, you would ABSOLUTELY NEVER hear me talk about how I was overdue for an oil change. Clean, full, engine oil is the life blood of these motors and injectors. I changed my oil last night right near the 330,000 mile mark.

Here's some reading for you if you're interested. Gene got involved so the thread got kind of long and involves lots of graphs, but in it, you can see reports from two different labs that analyzed my used oil to determine the condition of my engine. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...000-miles.html

Good read. I may have just doomed my engine. My oil seems pretty thin. How much is a rebuild If it comes to that??? ugh!!!

LOL. Don't know about that but I do like your people. My sister-in-law lives in Evansville IN, and has relatives in KY. We drop down there to see them now and then. All very gracious folks.
