Tremec trans

So on the 94 F150 2wd the stock 5 speed crapped 3rd and 4th gears. I am going to hop the 302 up with aluminum heads and a healthy cam so I was thinking about changing the tranny out to maybe a Tremec 5spd and need any thoughts or anyone who has done it.
Thanks, Paul.

Changing the axle ratio as well? I would go 3.73 or 4.10s to help it get off the line better.

What hp are you hoping to get out of it, anything over 290-300hp you'll need to tune it, and that isnt cheap on OBDI, unless you know how to, or you have a buddy...that can be bought with spirits.

If I redo my axle again, that’s what I’ll go to. 4.10s have been great with stop and go traffic pulling a trailer, but that 4.5 drive to see my kid sucks! 75 mph is around 3100rpm. I’ve contemplated having a set of oversized tires for the rear just for longer trips.

Torque breaks parts and shock loads. A 400hp 302 is not going to make much torque with that little 3" stroke

I am with you on that, yet a 400hp 302 will probably have a torque peak around 4500, give or take 500rpm. If after that, badass, keep us informed on the build.

It will act like a cammed Gen 3 GM. Been around those since late 90s.

Too much further past that and the block gets real iffy real quick.

I am also putting together a 408 aluminum headed roller stroker that may end up in it.
