I have a ‘94 F250 4WD w/ automatic trans and 5.8 EFI. It was my woods truck and dependable as hell. Since I’m not tree cutting anymore I have been thinking about restoring it and wanted to enhance the performance. What options would be good while maintaining reliability? GT40 heads and cam?
'94 Engine? Your signature says '93 5.8 / 4R70W 4x4. My buddy has a '95, and another has a '93, both are 5.8s and both are E4ODs... Anyway, your truck, so I assume you know what you have...
I personally wouldn't bother with iron GT40 heads. Not that much gain over your stock E7TEs. A pair of aftermarket aluminum heads would be a help, but may not work with your current AIR pump system if emissions-compliance is an issue.. Either way, a set of shorty- or mid-length headers couldn't hurt.
Cam upgrade will be trickier, since your truck's computer is finicky with respect to changing things too much. '93 will be hydraulic flat tappet, whereas '94 will be hydraulic roller.
By the way, I caught that Joe Walsh song reference in your signature....
