Unhappy New problem for me changing the distrbutor,

I need to adjust somewhere. truck won't run right new distributer in , truck cranks and almost starts . what is the procedure for getting it all lined up to tdc ? no markings for changing, had someone start for me, and he did not mark anything,

Did you put in the new distributor with the rotor pointing where the old one was?

Double check firing order matches the order on the sticker under your hood.

no but i can get 1. I didn't see any markings for a timing light on the pulleys. I would thing they would be on there somewhere if the TDC is on #1. I changed the whole dist because 30 yrs old and i don't have the presses to fix one.

Hi ,
all Does spout connector have to be connected / disconnected to set time ? I don't know what engine you have but 351w is different plug wiring than 302W and easy to mix up .
my best , Ed

It does have to be removed to set timing.

There’s markings on it. Take sand paper and rub all around the harmonic balancer. They should appear. Once you have them visible, check for compression on number one, turn crank by hand to get the timing mark to be on 0 degrees, verify rotor is pointed to the number 1 plug wire. If not, move the wires so it is or restab the distro.

Did you set the engine to TDC on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke? If you didnt pull the #1 spark plug out to confirm you were on the compression stroke, you have a 50:50 chance that you set them distributor on the exhaust stroke and the engine won't run.

Once you get it all correctly timed with the spout wire disconnected, mark the distributor body with a chisel like the factory did
Mark it right next to the hold down like the factory did the old one
Next time
** You can look at the casting marks and the old distributor mark, and get one pretty damn close if your buddy screws you up
