As I was rolling my windows up this morning, I realized the felt I got from LMC was the issue. It’s so stinking tight, but my buddy and I just figured it needed to wear in. It’s been at least 6 months, and is still ridiculously tight.
(I like the tab idea, and I started doing the math for that. I guess as long as we can get glass and rubber it’s probably slightly more work than it’s worth, but I also haven’t started looking for new windshield glass yet, which I’ll need this summer. I’m sure it’ll all work out….)

I was told by LMC customers service manager: All LMC glass is thinner than oem glass. All LMC seals are made for glass that is thinner than oem glass.
I got the new slider in. It is a tinted, one sliding window model. Is it perfect? No. Am I happy with it? Heck yes. It is good to have a fully enclosed cab. Once I squirt in a bit of silicone around the rubber on the top corners I will be happier.
Of course the LMC seal did not fit.

that seal & window looks very similar to the 99-04 superduties rear.
I know it doesn't look oe, but I was tired of searching and wondering if it would fit, etc. Finally, I found one on ebay that had some reviews from dent owners, so I bought it. Funny thing is, the invoice shows the same address as the company I bought one from on Amazon, but with a diff. company name. I thought they used two diff. names to avoid A from dictating what their price should be. Anyway, I am happy...and the window works!
Thanks to one and all for the help.

I'd love to have a rear sliding window but I doubt that I will ever end up with one.
Just way too much other stuff needs to get done.
You aren't missing much.
Mine has been sealed shut (4 small pop rivets in frame that can be removed) since about 2010 or 12 because it leaked at car washes and if opened while moving, air often blew trash, dust, leaves back into the cab from the bed and it was noisy so we usually didn't use it open .... and the AC hadn't worked since before that in the '90s, so it too was deactivated a couple years ago too. The only real value it ever held was as a "pass-thru" when I had the shell on as it had a slider too, or sometimes if just parked and wanting more air (like if at "Wright's Dairy Rite" under the awning eating a burger). I don't have the trash / leaves issues now, I don't run it through car washes much, so I might pull those 4 rivets and peal off the sealant and try it again, even use that new metal latch? But really .... the door glass, vent wings, dash vents, kick panel vents, & 50 mph work just fine.

I had the dealer install one the day I bought my 1979.
My factory shell had a front sliding window and I had a boot that went in between the cab and the shell that sealed between the two pretty darn good.
I had a small coolant heater core in a metal case with a 12 volt fan with both feeding off the engine.
I built a bed over the propane tank and when the kids went with us summer or winter they road in the back.
When the kids weren't with me the truck had nice cold factory air so the windows were never open.
The side sliding windows has screen so the kids were always comfortable summer or winter.
Those shells are heavy and I loaded and unloaded it by myself. 💪 I was younger back then.
I wouldn't mind if my '76 had one but I have no plans of ever getting one.
I always enjoy my slider. I don't have AC, so usually I'll open the wind wing a bit and the slider about an inch to get a nice cross flow of air on the freeway. Dog likes to hang his head out the back too. Dog is on my list since he got skunked and stunk up the whole house. Slider is the best for tossing empty beer cans into the bed.
I remember camping in New Mexico, sleeping in the bed with the shell on, and I woke in the night to see a big, fat racoon sliding down my windshield. Had a rack I made on top of the shell, and used to load aluminum boat upside down on top of that and drive 18 hours into Baja to fish. Good times. Used to carry 57 gallons of gas!

You drink and drive??
My shell was awesome for camping.
I could take one or leave it.
I'm fine either way.
If I ever find and buy another factory shell both of them will have sliding windows.
I still have that boot.
edit:
I really appreciate that you don't just toss the empties out the window.
I loath litter.
