I've got a code 625 (Electronic presure control solenoid circuit fault) on my 94 F250. Symptoms began with very hard shifting, not much else, truck still drives but not fond of very hard shifts. So, after lot of research, it appears that PCM is likely the culprit. Final test was to install DC ammeter in white/yellow wire between PCM and EPCP solenoid. Start truck, ammeter flickers momentarily and then nothing. Before amperage check, installed pressure gauge to see how much pressure transmission was getting. In Park, Drive and 2nd 165 PSI. Reverse and 1st 250 PSI. From what I've read these pressures are what should be at STALL not idle. So pretty sure, need new or repaired PCM. Anybody got recommendation on where to purchase? I see that Ford no longer makes new ones.
Is there a wiring fault? How about a solenoid fault? I don't see where you've checked either one. In my experience, both of those are more likely to fail than the PCM.
I've checked for Power at trans connector pin 11 (12v was present) and continuity from pcm 37 to trans 12 and pcm 38 to trans 11 - both wires were about 1 ohm. Also tested both wires to each other and ground pcm pin 40 while disconnected at both ends. I have ohm checked the epcp solenoid from pcm connector (4.4 ohms). Only test to the epcp solenoid was to momentarily connect 9V battery to it and listen for clicking sound which I think I heard. I've heard lot's of complaints of leaking caps doing damage to the PCM circuit boards. Any other tests you recommend I will do. Preliminary checks for "rebuilt" PCM for my truck are close to $1000.
I have the 7.5 liter (460) engine and am so happy to have it running well. I bought the used computer after trying one of the repair services thru EBAY. I sent it after asking them if they could repair computer exhibiting codes 624/625 and their response was they would have to look at. For $150 bucks thought how could I go wrong. They replaced three caps and repaired one trace but still showed codes 624/625. I don't know for sure but suspect that those repairs fix most common problems with our computers. I might be wiling to try SIA if they have ability to test all trans functions. Other outfit (keyworks) said that it all tested good before they returned it to me but I doubt it. Only thing that irritated me was that after they sent it back and didn't work, I started questioning whether the computer was the problem - almost replaced Solenoid pack. FTE is a great resource for us guys trying to keep 31 year old truck on the road.
Yeah, that is great info provided by Subford. I stumbled on to similair info using my.alldata.com which local library has subsciption to - otherwise it is a pay to use site. If I worked on a lot of different vehicles would pay to have on my computer. Again thanks for all info, muchly appreciated.
