Hello all. I have a really nice original 1992 F-250 Supercab 2wd Xlt . 460 with an E4OD that is a Jasper rebuild with about 6000 miles on it. Lately it has been shifting hard ,mainly 1st to 2nd and 3rd to OD . I have replaced the MLPS and TPS. I had it scanned , and it came back with code 99 idle not learned / electronic pressure control circuit fault. I pulled the wiring harness going to transmission, and looked it and the pins over for any damage ,found none. The over drive button on end of shift is not flashing . I have no CEL ,everything else is working as it should. Cant find any info on this code in my Chiltons manual . Anyone have an issue like this . Your help is appreciated .
The default mode the Computer switches to when there is a sensor problem is to jack up trans line pressure which results in hard/late shifts, so you need to find out what problem the computer is seeing. The Equus3145 code reader will make pulling codes real easy... and it's not an expensive tool to buy.
A Chilton's manual is useful for lining a birdcage, but not much more than that.
The code for the electrical circuit fault is your problem. Looking at the wiring is a waste of time. You need to electrically check the circuit to the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid for opens, short to power, and short to ground. Anything less than this won't fix it.
