I finished the right side UVCH today. Being my first time it took me a while to do the R&R-slow going to make sure I did it correctly. I'll tackle the left side tomorrow, then move on to the main harness. The right valve cover had no oil build of any kind. Dog house is clean, no oil at the turbo fan, ordered new dog house gaskets and elbow and will reinstall after main harness is replaced.
Received the UVCH harness, main engine wiring harness and CCV O rings from Riff Raff last Thursday. Also replaced the CPS sensor. Friday was my install day to replace both of the harnesses. All went according to plan, albeit slow this being my first attempt at the wiring set up. A very tight fit around the rear of the valve covers but I managed with a 1/4" wrench and socket. I'm sure it will go much faster next time but I hope there is no next time. Friday afternoon I tightened the last bolt and proceeded to fire her up... The truck fired right up and went out for a good long drive. Getting back home it was time for a celebratory beer or two.
Feeling confident that I'll be able to take next summers cross country trip without any hiccups. A shout out to the team at Riff Raff, they could not have been nicer and thanks to OBS guru's for their observations and suggestions.
If you're going to keep this truck and use it cross-country, you need a means to read the codes yourself, as most shops do not. You can get an old Windows laptop for well under $100 on Goodwill auctions or eBay, and an ELM327 OBD plug-in is, IIRC, $20-25. Well worth it, if it means you _don't_ throw away money on a part you don't need.
