Just happened! First time ever had the CE some on in 28 yrs. Went to the store, everything was running just perfect. Left the store to come home started up fine and went to drive away and check engine light comes on and running very ruff. Able to limp home the 1/2 mile. Never had this issue before. Could it be the CPS ( I have one to change out) or something bigger? Oil changed every 3500 miles and just have 400 miles on current oil change. Need your advise on what to look for.. I do not have a code reader. Thanks.
Auto store ones do not connect to these easily, if at all. You need to acquire this computer tool Forescan, it allows you to pull codes and read real time data for diagnostic work.

Looks like I will need to take the truck my local repair shop. It that has been very reliable over the years. Once the codes are pulled I may need to R&R injectors and glow plugs since all are original with 323,000 miles on them. I have a set of Motorcraft glow plugs (ZD-10) that I bought a decade or so ago just to have for back up - are they good to use or do I need the updated version? If I drive the truck to the shop (1/4 mile) in its present condition, do I risk damaging the motor? I can have it towed.
It looks to me that you have 3 burned pins, left rear has 1 and both right plugs have 1. Granted they are the glow plug pins, but they will eventually melt into the injector pins. The ZD10 plugs will be fine to use, and it won't hurt the engine to drive it a 1/4 mile to the shop.
Where is the best shop to buy a new UVCH harness? Do I need the under cover set as well the top of engine plug set or is the set complete with both sides?
Motorcraft or Navistar are probably the best valve cover gasket.. The Doorman brand are cheaper, but some have had problems out of the box with them. I have used Doorman and have gotten along all right, and they have the under valve cover harness attached to the gasket, and come with new engine side pig tails.
Just ordered the new UVCH harnesses and new valve cover gaskets, from Riff Raff. After I finish the R&R I most likely move on the main harness.
I entered my Vin #l for the harness but when the web page loaded the harness depicted did not look to have the four plugs (2 left, 2 right)to connect to
UVCH as requiredf for my truck. Has anybody order the new (FOMOCO) harness with the 4 plug connectors from Riff Raff?
I"ve received the UVCH harnesses and the main harness but I have a problem! I've removed all the necessary parts that are in the way of removing all the valve covers bolts except one. The left rear cover bolt is next to impossible for me to get at with any kind of wrench. I can barely get my hand in there let alone a socket and wrench. What is the trick to removing this bolt.? I can't proceed with the full replacement until I get this bolt out! Desperately need advise form the OBS gurus so I can get back out on the road.
